The Clear Lake Classic was a bit different then the previous few years but none the less a wonderful event. The last two years it took around 34lbs. to win and this year it was 13.7 lbs. The winners were Jeff Becker and Dave Murray. There strategy was pulling #5 shad raps about 10 feet down in 11 to 15 feet of water. Second place was caught by pulling spinners and crawlers and plain hooks and bottom bouncers on boards with worms. Third place was pulling spinners with 1.5 oz. bottom bouncers with worms and minnows in the basin of the lake. There were 260 fish brought to the scales this year. There were only 10 or so fish over 20 inches brought in. In 2002 there were 500 brought to the scales and in 2001 there were 1000 fish brought in. There is a good population of eyes in the lake ,but the baitfish population is very making the bite difficult along with the clean water.

Numbers of fish were down for the Clear Lake Walleye Classic this year, but the Classic remains one of the best tournaments in the Midwest. The folks who organize and run this tournament do a fantastic job. That is reflected in the fact that the Classic fills up early every year.
