Can anyone tell me how the walleye fishing is in September and which part of the month is best. Also, any recommendations for a place to stay would be appreciated too.

Thank You

What dates are you planning for, and how many people?

There would be two people. Thinking of the last week in September.

You might try some of these places. Late September you should get a good off season rate. many give up to 50% off. Oaks Motel 712-336-2940, Northland Motel 712-336-1450, Pioneer Beach 712-336-3785, Vergies Resort 712-336-3491, Shamrock Motel 712-336-2668. Good luck.

Walleye Wrangler, Thanks for the information on lodging! Do you have an idea on how the fishing would be at that time? There doesn't seem to be a lot of fishing information or forecasts for that time on Big Spirit.

Spirit can be hard to forecast especially late summer and early fall. The bite can be really awesome one day and totally shut down the next. I have been fishing out there practically every weekend this seaon, and some days a limit of walleyes for 2 people takes 2-4 hours, with a lot of sorting. And other days, it will take all day if you even get the limit. You can always go out and catch little ones, but I think it just takes luck and sorting to get into a big one. My biggest this season has been just over 6 pounds. Altho earlier this seaon, one fish out of my limits was over 20 inches about 75 percent of the time. As of right now, 16-20 feet of depth seems to be the productive zone. Using phelps floaters and dragging them along the bottom. The spinner rigs have slowed down for me, but by sept crankbaits might become the big ticket.
