every year my buddy and i take a 1 week fishing trip to minn. wis,or mich. and always pick some place new to go , we usually go to a river because we fish out of a 14' jon boat with a 6hp motor. this year we went to the pestigo river and just did ok on walleyes, but we met a guy at the local bar that has a brother-in-law that fishes the menominee river near pembine and thinks that this is a place we could try next year. does anyone know the area and would this boat be safe to use there ? thanks !

We have a family cabin in Mountain WS and my dad, grandpa, and I drove over and fished the river last yr. The 3 of us fished out of my Astro Bassboat and it was pretty windy! The closer we got to the main lake the more waves we got but we fished in about 2 ft. waves in the main channel against a rock shoreline and drifted and casted the shoreline and got a variety of fish. We had a bunch of whitebass, sheepshead, and a few nice walleyes. We only fished for 4 or 5 hours and most of the people were trolling planer boats with alot better success then we had walleye wise. Im setting my boat setup for trolling now with riggers and such and im planning on fishing it again early next spring. I think you would be okay in a 14 ft. boat. Actually with only a 6hp. motor you should be able to troll easily if you have the boat setup for it. You have to be carfeful though the farther up river you get the more you have to watch out on the little rapids and in the shallower water! Our lure of choice was a black jighead with a yellow mister twister and we weren't jigging it at all, just casting and reeling them in. Also we did good with kastmasters and zips! Good Luck and let me know if you have any more questions. Hope this helps!
