West Okoboji continues to have a good walleye bite in deep water in the daylight hours. Fireball jigs and Roach Rigs baited with chubs or minnows work well. Walleyes will be from 20 to 60-feet, depending on weather conditions. Nightime waders and dock fisherman have been doing well casting Power grubs, Rockaroos, or shallow running Crankbaits. Bluegill fishing remains good in and off the weed edges. Smallmouth activity is fair on the rock piles and largemouth are on the deeper weed edges. Wading and night fisherman are catching some nice largemouth casting over the weeds with shallow Crankbaits. Some muskie and northern pike action is going on over the weeds.
East Okoboji has a good walleye bite in the evenings off docks and around bridges on Crankbaits and Power grubs. Daytime walleyes require some sorting for legal fish. Trolling Rapalas in shallow water is a top presentation. Good white bass fishing is going on with Fireball jigs and minnows or small Crankbaits. White bass are movers so cover some water until you find them.
Minnewasta is producing white bass, a few walleyes, good bluegills and sporadic crappie and perch action.
Big Spirit is good on walleyes in the evenings, especially for wading fisherman. There is some activity for evening boat fisherman in 12 to 18-foot of water trolling Frenzy Crankbaits, and some also for smallmouth on the deeper rocks. Perch activity is slow in the deeper water, but more consistent in the shallows off weed edges. Try small jigs and whigglers.
The Little Sioux River continues to produce walleyes and a few catfish. Casting Power grubs or soaking a chub on the bottom in a deep hole will usually get results.
Lost Island is producing some nice walleyes in the evenings on Power Grubs. You might want to give the new Berkley Gulp Minnow a try. They have been producing some nice catches in our rivers and lakes. They are not quite as user friendly as regular Power Bait. If you leave them on your jig in the sun or overnight you will need a knife to remove them. Also do not put them back in the bag after use. But being 400 times stronger in scent, can make a difference. They are available at The Fishermans Factory Outlet and Oh Shucks.
