View Full Version : Accidental Peta Contributions
Just thought I would let everyone know about some companies who donate proceeds to PETA as claimed on one of PETA'S own web sites. Avon, Staples, Amazon, and Travelocity, all contribute to Peta. No more Skin so Soft for me to keep the bugs away.

Last time I checked Target stores (formerly Dayton Hudson) were the largest corporate contibutors to the Humane Society of the United States and several other extremist organizations. I don't shop at Target.

AOL is also a major contributor to animal rights causes. If you are an AOL user I would encourage you to change because they are taking a portion of your money and contributing it to organizations that want to stop you from hunting and fishing.

Not sure if we would consider the "Humane Society of the United States" as an extremist organization. I know I really don't, and I don't think that most of us that have dogs and cats as pets, and feel fair treatment of animals would either. Just my thoughts!

I'm pretty sure (and correct me if I'm wrong) but I think the "Humane Society" and the "Humane Society of the United States" are two different organizations. The later being radical. These folks are heavily into telemarketing for your charitable contributions.

If AOL is a contributor, I'm glad I don't use them as a server. Plus, it gives me great pleasure to know that I am using the messenger service for free, without using them as a browser....hehehehe.

TBO you may be confusing American Humane with HSUS. The Humane Society of the United States is actively involved in anti-hunting, fishing and trapping. They have poured huge amounts of money into stopping everything from bowhunting in some eastern states to stopping trapping and mountain lion hunting in California to stopping bear hunting with dogs in Washington and dozens of others. I feel they are far more dangerous than PeTA because while PeTA spends all its energy causing an uproar and getting attention, The Humane Society is slowly but diligently chipping away at our outdoor privileges every day. It is known that they have huge cash resources and even do a lot of underhanded money laundering overseas. This is big business, make no mistake, and they have to show successes to keep the cash flow coming in, and if people knew how much money they actually have, they would have a difficult time getting donations. It's also been proven that some of the local money donated by well-meaning people concerned about pet adoption or a similar issue has been channeled into radical animal rights causes.
Here's the search results through the WLFA for recent HSUS activity.

I guess that didn't work. Just type HSUS in the search box.

The Humane Society is the largest anti-hunting/trapping/fishing organization in the world. They funnel money from all of their fund raisers to fight OUR outdoor pursuits. Many people donate to them thinking that all the $$ goes to help dogs & cats, but nothing could be further from the truth !!! Any time I see a collection container at a restaurant, etc. for the HSUS, I make sure the owner knows what the money is going to .... if they don't have a problem with it supporting the anti's, then I let them know that myself & many other sportsmen will not frequent their business.
Keep up the fight !!!!

It is indeed confusing with the HSUS and the Humane Society we all know as our local animal shelter. My local shelter still gets my support and since we are in Canada, has no affiliation with the prior mentioned activist organization. Our governemnt has recently enacted a bill which entrenches Fishing and Hunting rights into law and cannot be therefore reduced or pecked away. You guys down south would do well to try and get your gov't to do the same. I bet your chances are good with George W. in charge.

my partner(veterinarian) is very "up" on the humane society and claims the president was the past president or high ranking official of peta...something like that...he is always upset when we start talking humane society because of their anti-hunting stand....he is an avid hunter while i tend to be the fisherman...steve...could get info if people are interested

Please obtain any information regarding the "anti"/extremist organizations and post. It would be particularly helpful to know where their funding comes from and organize this board to boycott these corporate villians. Good Hunting.

Time warner is big time into the antis. If you want to support our lifestyle, see if you can use outdoors unlimited . net They send a portion of your monthly fee to support hunting and fishing etc.

Hey, I quit using the vet I used for several years as I saw a anti sticker on the door window. Oh crud, I forget the name but it is the group that uses the panda bear on their logo. Ang you can bet I dont go to many movies to support the empty headed hollywood morons that back the antis. Hollywood can fall into the ocean anyday, methinks.
great and interesting topic!!
SOmeone should bring this up in febuary or march when this board starts becoming a pis-ing match for grumpy unfulfilled fishermen and over cold hunters!!!
I would love to see an article (or better a series of articles) in a hunting/fishing/outdoor enthusiast magazine!!
another problem with wading through these organizations is that we all are animal lovers who cherish life and have a strong desire to protect our natural resourses, something most of the less "out there" organizations do. ie, helping to protect XXXXX with one (verry public) hand, while bankrolling a campaign to restrict fishing/hunting/access/whatever with a much less visible hand.
I quit a "national fishing club~with an emphasis on selling books" becuase(amung other things) they were against efforts to eliminate exotic and implant species from a certin river and restoring the natural balance of species. Ok, the natural species are less desierable as game fish, but also include some threatened and declining species. this club had a stance solely for sportfishing and was not concerned in the least about our declining natural resources.
as sportsmen we have to walk on a fine and blurry line betwene protecting our sport(s) and protecting the resourses that we depend on to alow us to prsctice these sports. we have organizations such as DU, and Pheasants forever, maby it is time for a generic sportsmens forever, or fish forever. so that as a whole we could un-blur these fine grey lines and have a lobying force dedicated to protecting the ballance of sportsmens rights and the environment/natural resources.
I'm rembeling, but just a thought!!

Very well put. It all comes down to the fact that if you have enough people, you can change things. The problem would be finding enough open minded people that have a passion for both fishing/hunting as well as conservation of natural resources. Right now there are plenty of sportsmen, but sportsmen with resource conservation mindsets are a little harder to come by.
Instead, we have the extreme sportsman organizations, perhaps like the club that you mentioned, fighting against the extreme groups for the resource/animal conservation mentality. It just doesn't work, there has to be some middle ground to meet on.

I never bought any of their overpriced cr*p anyway, but that is very interesting if it is true. And if so, Ford can kiss my business goodbye as they still make an eddie bauer edition.
