I have a question about which trolling motor to get. I have a 16 ft tiller model & took the bowmount off my old console model & put it on the tiller. Question is....it would seem to me that it would be much easier to have a transom mount trolling motor so you didn't have to go to the front of the boat when want to troll, but it seems that a bowmount would be easier around docks, brushpiles, etc. I have a chance to sell the bowmount for what I paid for it. What do you tiller guys do?? This is my first tiller model & I guess I never noticed what anyone did before. What are some of the advantages of each?? Didn't really want to keep both, but I'm sure I'll hear that. If it comes down to choice.....which one???? Thanks, Mike

Good question.

How big is your tiller? If you can backtroll effectively with the tiller, I would go with the bow-mount. Bow-mount makes positioning for casting much more efficient. Lots of walleye anglers are using their bow-mount motors for positioning when jigging and live-bait rigging as well also. This year I have been pulling spinners for walleyes a lot with the bow-mount.

The only time I can think of when the transom mount would be preferable is when the water is flat and you want to backtroll.

Hope that helps. Let us know what you decide and what the results are.

I used to have only a rear troller. Now I use both. But if I had a choice, I'd keep the bow mount. Controlling a boat from a rear troller is diffecult at best.

Thanks guys. I've had some others say about the same thing. I think I'll stay with the bowmount I have on now. I think I saved some money on something I may not have been entirely happy with it weren't for the help of others like you. Thanks again......Mike
