I need help in finding a top-notch resort on the U.S. side of Rainy Lake. Planning a June trip which would offer clean comfortable cabins, friendly, helpful staff, and GREAT fishing (aren't we all?). Thanks for all the help!!! Marty
We went to Ballards for our first and only trip so far to LOTW. The cabin was huge with plenty of sleeping, the food was good in the restaurant (great buffalo wings, but we cooked most our food ourselves in the cabin) and the bartender and staff really nice. The docks were good, although we needed quite long eletric cord to reach our slip.
Fishing was great - was same time as the 2000 PWT event and we watched pros and we also caught a lot of fish, biggest was 24". Even if weather is bad, you can fish the river or bay.
I would recommend Ballards and will go there again, but all the places looked pretty nice. Some other places had more "pretty" cabins, but the Ballards cabins were great for staying in, although they could have slightly more comfy couches. Possibly they do now...
