Webster, Riddick Move to Lead After Day I of Great Plains Championship of Walleye Fishing

A six-fish limit weight of 7.97 pounds gave the team of Ted Webster from Hutchinson, KS and Robert Riddick from Wakefield, KS the lead after the first day at the Great Plains Championship of Walleye Fishing on Wilson Lake.
Hutchinson and Riddick, the 2004 Great Plains Team of the Year, also had the first day’s big fish with a 1.86-pound walleye.
Rich Farmer and Doug Duncan from Wichita, KS were in second place with a six-fish limit weight of 6.92 pounds.
Mike Cooper and Robert Chitty from Beloit, KS were in third place with 5.37 pounds.
The Great Plains Championship of Walleye Fishing, which is the third of eight such tournaments on the Gander Mountain Grand National Walleye Cup (GNWC) circuit, found the bite to be hit and miss.
"This is really a tight race. We had two teams bring in six-fish limits on Saturday. I’m sure they will be doing the same things again on Sunday. However, the title is still up for grabs. If any of the top teams can latch on to a big kicker fish, they could come away with the Great Plains Championship of Walleye Fishing Title," said Gander Mountain GNWC Executive Director Bernie Barringer.
Sunday's action follows the same format as Saturday with take-off at 7 a.m. and weigh-in at 3 p.m. at the Boat Ramp Cove at the #### Creek Recreation area.
"We’ve had great media coverage for the tournament, and I look for a great crowd on Sunday. The second day's weigh-in promises a lot of action. I think the crowd will enjoy seeing whether our leaders will be able to hold on and claim the title of champions of the Great Plains Championship of Walleye Fishing or whether any of the other teams will be able to make a run at them. With the tournament ending on Sunday, the teams will share their secrets, so it will be a great opportunity for people to learn more about fishing Wilson Lake."
