WEST OKOBOJI'S perch fishing has picked up off the deep weed lines. There is some crappie action off of and around wooden docks and off the weed edges. Small Power Grubs and 1/32 oz Rock a roos are good lure choices. Minnows and slip bobbers will take the slow biters. White Bass schools are fun to catch when you find them near the surface. Small Firestick Crankbaits or Bettle Spins will also get action. Bluegill action has slowed but work the deeper drop offs for the bigger fish. Walleye action remains slow but some fish are being taken by bass and muskie anglers fishing docks or over weed beds. A few northern pike and muskie are being caught in shallow weeds. Smallmouth bass action remains good near rock piles on live crawfish. Largemouth are on deep weed edges or under docks.
BIG SPIRIT LAKE is good for yellow perch and crappie on the weed edges. Try the Angler Bay area as a starting point. There is excellent smallmouth bass fishing off the weed edges. Try working small Crankbaits or minnows on a slip bobber. Most largemouth activity is around wood docks. Muskie and northern action is fair off the weed beds also. Some fast white bass action can be had if you find a feeding school. Walleye action is fair, trolling Crankbaits in the basin.
EAST OKOBOJI LAKE is good at times on yellow perch, especially on the weed edges or docks. A few white bass are showing up as are a few walleyes on the rock piles.
SILVER LAKE at Lake Park is fair on walleyes. Trolling Crankbaits in the middle of the lake works about as well as anything else. CLEAR LAKE is fair on yellow bass and walleye. There is some muskie action trolling Crankbaits. STORM LAKE is good for catfish but slow on walleyes. Pull Crankbaits for best results.
Keep a tight line and may your aim be straight. Jim McDonnell is a professional fishing guide in the Iowa Great Lakes area. He can be reached by calling 712 933-5532.
