Just returned from a trip to Pelican Lake near Orr, MN Weather was blustery, windy, rainy, cool. Conditions like this usually spell tough fishing, but not this time.
Fished with resorters Rob Kemkes and John Matthews. We fished a variety of patterns. Northern pike were almost everywhere. Throw a spinnerbait and you will catch pike.
Caught largemouth bass on Suspending Frenzy Firestick Minnows and 4 inch Power Grubs. Chunky largemouth, mostly two pounders.
Got on a really good smallmouth bite once we found the pattern. Rock reefs in the main lake areas produced smallmouth bigtime. Mostly 16-18 inchers. At one point we had a triple. For awhile it was a fish almost every cast. 4 inch watermelon Power Grubs on the new Northland Jungle Jig-Worm heads designed for jigworm fishing was best for the smallies. Great jighead to use with plastic. Big hook and a nice keeper to prevent the plastic from sliding.
Pelican Lake has lots of cabbage weed, lots of rock reefs, and lots of fish. Great lake for action and for size.
Will post a website for more info later.
