Hi
The full moon/night trolling/crankbait/stay out til dawn bite on Mille Lacs was inconsistent for most anglers - lots of folks started showing up as early as Friday night to cash in on the September "full moon phase". The overall catch since Friday has been off somewhat from what we've seen over the last several years. Some folks did well, while others struggled to pick up even a couple of walleye. Of the people we talked to, the "bobber boys" did AT LEAST as well as the trollers... maybe even a little better. If the moon showed us anything this week, it made some guys realize that the moon phase can certainly be used as a valuable tool - just not the ONLY tool when night fishing. Look for the bite to improve as the lake temperature drops over the next several weeks. The reef markers are being pulled off the lake now - expect to see this project finished by early October.
Stick to the shallow rock reefs again this week - 12 feet or less (day or
night) will provide the most consistent action. Anderson's, Shaw's and Lakeside Reef are good starting points.
The surface temp is 61 degrees.
Yes, we still have big leeches!
The weather for the weekend (according to WeatherUnderground) looks like this:
Friday: Occasional showers. Turning windy and colder. Highs around 55. West winds 5 to 10 mph early in the morning...becoming northwest 20 to 30 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation 90 percent.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy. Cool...breezy. Lows 30 to 35. Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph in the evening decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight.
Saturday: Partly cloudy. Highs around 55. West winds 10 to 15 mph.
Saturday Night: Partly cloudy. Lows around 35.
Sunday: Partly cloudy. Highs 55 to 60.
