Nick Johnson of Elmwood, WI, is the fist ever Evinrude angler to secure the RCL Walleye Championship title. Nick captured the title this past Saturday afternoon in Moline, IL.
The Mississippi River was the host river of the 2004 Championship. The bite was tough as mixed weather passed through the area throughout the week. For Nick it didn't take a five-fish limit to seal victory but it took was four walleyes weighing 6 pounds, 9 ounces to capture victory. "I can't believe the four little fish I had would win $300,000," Johnson said. They were good enough for not only for Johnson but also the winning weight, earning him first place out of a field of 219 competitors who started fishing last Wednesday.
Five Evinrude anglers competed in the top twelve before the field was cut to six. Two Evinrude anglers remained in the top six with Nick taking home the hardware.
