Does any one know of an outfitter in the boundary waters that rents canvas tents with a wood stove for winter camping. I saw a show that they camped on the ice and fished in the boundary waters on a few years ago. Now that my friends and I are old enough we would like to try this.

Matt:If you and your friends are wanting to experience winter camping in the Boundary Waters, you are wise to use a winter outfitter the first time out.Best place to start is www.ely.org and go to the winter outfitters site. There are number of quality guides that do winter camping and a number of them can and do use dog sledding as a means to transportation.
Hope you have good luck with your trip if you go.

Genio is correct. Ely is the best area I know of to do a winter trip. I did the dog-sled deal in Ely a few years ago. Interesting trip. I have had friends do the same thing in the same area. Everyone that I have heard from says good things about the trip.
If you decide to go for it, let us know what you think, regardless of where you go.
