Reading some of the posts on Bombardiers on LOTW and Float Vans the post that mentioned flotation installed on some of the vehicles really caught my attention.
Having a flotation system installed on a quad or snowmachine that is used on the ice would be a real comfort. My question is this.....Are they commercially available?......if they are not what do you guys use if you have this sort of thing installed. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Lake Mendota, in Madison, WI requires floats for all snowmobiles and ATVs. Subsequently, most people make their own floatation, but there are some commercial solotions also. If you goto the Dane county Sherrif's web site: http://www.co.dane.wi.us/shrf/index.html they have the information on what they deem to be acceptable flotation and have some pictures. They have a certain amount of cubic feet of foam required for floatation. If you prefer to buy some floatation, a company makes a ripstop type nylon bag that has a removable foam block inside. The bags mount to the racks of an ATV. I believe that the system costs ~$200. You can buy these at D&S bait in Madison www.dsbait.com and some other fishing specialty stores in the area. I hope that this helps.
