Just returned from Big Stone Lake near Ortonville MN. Big Stone is 3-4 hours straight west of the Twin Cities on the MN-SD border. Long lake from north to south, not too wide. Great walleye lake.
Fished with local expert and good guy Dennis Kassube. Dennis knows Big Stone and the other lakes out there really well.
Big Stone is best when there is some wind or overcast. We had bright skies but still caught 18-20 inch walleyes on 3" Gulp! Minnow Grubs in the afternoon, then started throwing minnow baits in the early evening. Bite was much better in the evening. Suspending Frenzy Firestick minnows in Firetiger or silver/black were very good.
Also caught some nice white bass and one big carp.
The bite on Big Stone is going to improve as weather stabilizes. Chance for a big walleye is good here.

If you want a map of the lake, tell them you saw this on the Fishing the Midwest website and they will send you a free one.
