Weekend Outlook

Hi
The Mille Lacs bite is starting to come around - Some pretty decent daytime fish are being taken in 15-22 feet. Live bait rigs with leeches or shiners are the best so far. Look to areas like the NE corner by Carlsona and Wilderness, or 1 1/4 mile out from Brandt's. It's still day by day, but thses areas have been the most consistent. There are even a few "deep" fish starting to show up! Toward evening, fish 8-12 feet on the shallow rock reefs with a slip bobber/Angle Jig/leech set-up. This bite usually begins around 8-8:30PM. Some of the better reefs include Agate, Big Point, Izaty's and Anderson's. Vineland Bay is your best bet for northern right now - suckers have been the bait of choice.
The surface temperature is 56 degrees.
The night ban is now in effect. No one may fish for any species or possess fishing gear on the lake from 10 p.m. through 6 a.m. starting at 10 p.m. on May 16 and ending at 12:01 a.m. on June 13.
The Minnesota bass opener is May 28th (this Saturday). Remember on Mille Lacs, "release immediately all smallmouth under 21 inches - bag limit is 1" (over 21 inches). Many of us believe that Mille Lacs holds the next State smallmouth record - You’ll find most of these fish on the "beds" now, which poses the annual "ethical dilemma"... do we disturb these fish while they’re on the beds? Biologists have produced gobs of data on this - you decide what theory to subscribe to!

A new requirement, for children under age 10 to wear a life jacket while boating on Minnesota waters went into effect May 6, 2005. The new law requires that a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket be worn by children younger than age 10 in boats that are underway or otherwise not tied up to a dock or permanent mooring.
There are a few exceptions to the law. Children are not required to wear a life jacket if they are in a boat’s enclosed cabin or below decks, or on an anchored boat that is being used as a platform for swimming or diving. Also, children on board commercial or charter vessels with a licensed captain are exempt from the life jacket wearing requirement.
Finally,
Why did the blonde nurse take a red magic marker to work?
In case she had to draw some blood.
Have a great weekend,
