Anyone else fishing Clear Lake with any success recently? I took the family out early Sunday afternoon for 3 hours or so and absolutely nothing was happening. We were mostly running cranks in the 10-13' range, but couldn't do much beyond bass & bullheads. :( Didn't see anyone else catching anything either, so wondering if the bite is just very slow or mostly a morning/evening thing.

Clear Lake is slow right now, but I am thinking it should get better if weather stays consistent. However, there is a pretty good storm going through right now.
I was on Clear Lake today, Monday June 20. Caught a few small walleyes on Rainbow Spinners and Gulp! crawlers and live crawlers. Few bullheads, one carp, no yellow bass. That surprised me. Didn't even get the yellow bass pecks, and fewer bullheads than normal. Fished several of the better areas, most of the fish were in six feet of water, and they came in flurries. Catch a couple, then nothing for an hour.
Stable weather is what we need.

Smitty,
I was out that Sunday as well and did just fine on yellows, whites, and a good number of short eyes but no keepers. Most of the yellows, whites, and eyes were pretty deep, between 10 and 13 ft. If you get shallower than that you tend to start picking up mud rockets. The trolling bite is next to non-existent right now, at least I haven't had much luck with it lately. To catch eyes you really need to work the bottom slowly. Either drift fish a jig, drag a triple swivle rig, or anchor up and slip bobber fish a foot off the bottom over a rock pile with either minnow or leach.

I also fished Clear this weekend. I had pretty good luck on Saturday a.m. We got about 20 walleyes, with 4 being legal. Biggest was 19", I lost a bigger one at the boat. We were pulling spinners in 7-10' with crawlers and leeches. I came back on Monday as well, thinking it would be good again, without much luck. Ended up with one keeper eye and 3 shorts. I also noticed the trolling bite to be dead, I pulled boards for probably 4 hours all weekend and only caught one walleye and a catfish.
I was also amazed at the lack of activity by the yellows. We only caught one each day.
Bob, was that you in the silver Alumacraft, and in the Dome around 7a.m.? If it was that's a sharp looking boat.

Thanks guys. Sounds like I had the wrong presentation during what was already a marginal bite. Thought hard about taking some crawlers but forgot them in the heat of the moment when it was time to leave.
I agree Bob, I'd thought Sunday after 2 or 3 days of warm, reasonably stable weather they might light up but I guess I was wrong!!
Oh well, we had a great family outing on the lake anyway. Just would have been nice for the boys to pull a few fish. Guess that's why it's fishing instead of catching.. :banging:

That was me at Dome Bait shortly after 7 a.m. Alumacraft, white on top, silver on bottom, Honda 90 on the back. That is a nice color combo, thanks. Next time be sure to say hello, we'll compare fishing notes.

I will be sure to give you a shout next time i run into you up there. Hopefully the trolling bite takes off in the next couple of weeks.
