Hi

Warmer temperatures and a break from the rain has helped the bite on Mille Lacs - good numbers of fish in a wide mix of sizes continue to show up day after day. The mud flats (Curly's, 7-mile and Boot) have produced some nice catches. Fish the flats with a leech and a floating bait rig OR turn up your speed and throw on a crawler/spinner. Both approaches have worked well on a daily basis. Some of the deep rock reefs are worth a look too - 3-mile, Indian Point and 2nd Reef have each been good. Toward evening, anchor-up on 8-14 feet of BIG rock with a slip bobber and a leech and hang on... this is by far the best bite of the day AND you don't have to stay out all night to enjoy it!
This has turned into a pretty good bite - not "the bite of a lifetime", but certainly better than we’ve seen for a couple years. Be responsible with the "small" (10-14 inch) fish - while they’re "legal", they are also our future "keepers". Just a few years ago, we saw how the Mille Lacs anglers can get a black eye from a few people who don’t handle their throwbacks (big OR small) carefully. Trust me... we’re under a microscope here and ANY mishandled fish will reflect negatively on ALL of us who fish Mille Lacs. If you have "newcomers" to fishing or perhaps to "catch and release", break ’em in right... our future depends on it. The Mille Lacs bite is good enough now that you can be almost certain you’ll have to throw a fish (or several or maybe even MANY) back on your next trip!
The northern and muskie action is slow, but starting to show signs of improvement. Look for things to bust loose as the weather continues to warm.

The surface temp is 70 degrees.

Friday: Partly cloudy. High 82F. Winds NW at 10 to 20 mph.

Friday night: A few clouds. Low 54F. NNW winds at 10 to 20 mph, diminishing to less than 5 mph.

Saturday: Times of sun and clouds. Highs in the upper 70s and lows in the low 60s.
Sunday: A few thunderstorms possible. Highs in the low 80s and lows in the upper 60s.

The full moon was yesterday, 6-22-05

There's a Pancake Breakfast at Holy Cross Center (intersection of hwys 169 and 27 west) Sunday morning - bring your appetite!

Finally...
Buford walked into a doctor’s office and the receptionist asked him what he had. Buford said, "Shingles". So she wrote down his name, address, medical insurance number and told him to have a seat. Fifteen minutes later a nurse’s aid came out and asked Buford what he had. Buford said, "Shingles". So she wrote down his height, weight, a complete medical history and told Buford to wait in the examining room. A half hour later a nurse came in and asked Buford what he had. Buford said "Shingles". So she gave Buford a blood test, a blood pressure test, an electrocardiogram, told Buford to take off all his clothes and wait for the doctor. An hour later the doctor came in and asked Buford what he had. Buford said, "Shingles". The doctor asked, Where? Buford said, "Outside on the truck, Where do you want them"?

Have a great weekend,
