Hi

The hot Mille Lacs bite backed off a bit this week - multiple bug hatches are being blamed for much of the slow down. While there's certainly something to the bugs, unstable weather and the reality that mid-July is upon us all contributes to the annual "July correction". Overall, I'd still say that we're above average compared to a normal "mid-July". The day bite has been best on the mud flats with crawlers/spinners - some of the better flats include 7-mile, Backer and Banana flats. Copper, pink and gold are the top colors. A handful of folks are pulling crankbaits in the deep water with mixed success. Deep Rogues and the new Taildancer have been the top baits. In the evening, fish a slip bobber/leech rig on a deeper (20-28) rock/gravel spot. 2nd reef, Indian Point and Sloppy Joes have been decent for this. Northern, muskie and smallmouth action has been spotty so far this week.

The weather for the weekend (as reported by Weatherunderground) looks like
this:
Friday: Partly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs around 85. South winds 10 to 15 mph.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy. Lows around 65. South winds 5 to 15 mph.

Saturday: Mostly sunny. Highs around 90. Southeast winds 5 to 15 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear. Lows around 65. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny. Highs around 90.

The new moon was yesterday, 7-6-2005

Sunset Friday, July 8 is 9:01pm.

Be sure to check your boat, motor and trailer thoroughly before launching AND before leaving Mille Lacs - weed growth is near its peak this time of year, and it only takes a small piece to get loose and BAM! Another way to "unknowingly" transport weed fragments is in your livewell - Mille Lacs is STILL classified as "infested water", and you MAY NOT hit the highway with water in your livewell (pg 18, 2005 DNR synopsis). The last major culprit is your anchor - it’s easy to load up the anchor without inspecting the anchor itself AND the rope/chain for mud/sand and for pieces of weed. Take a minute, and help keep ALL of our lakes in good shape.

Isle days is this weekend - if you need a break from the lake, this is the place to go!

Don’t forget to check out our weekly "web-only Shop Special" at www.lundeens.com/shop.html before your visit!

Finally...
Ole and Sven were having a discussion about the rising cost of gasoline. Ole said “those price increases don’t affect me, ya know... I always buy $20 worth!”

Have a great weekend,
