Hi, Troutster! I'm coming up to pre-fish for the FLW Walleye League Championship to be held in early September. I hope to fish the first weekend in August plus the weekend before the tournament to help out our team. Please send me your e-mail or name and phone number so I can contact you directly. Many thanks for your help! Gary Speicher, NPAA #128, Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Need a guide??? It's funny, we can all catch fish when put on them. The drive to success has turned tourney angler game into buying local informaiton for them to succeed. I thought part of the tourney game was going to a new place, using your walleye ability to find fish and succeed. I know this goes on, I guess I better start buying info to compete.
I'm not trying to pick on your post and create a mess. But what does it mean to win a tourney based bought info?

I found out that I will be in Mexico for the first part August for work-related issues. If you still need some ideas and the like, please feel free to reply to this post.
I have not been fishing lately due to work.....and it is getting frustrating.

Best guides on that water. I fished there with James last week and boated several over 22. Biggest was 26. Lots around and just under 20.

Thanks to all who replied with helpful information. Every walleye fishing publication I read speaks highly of utilizing local guides to learn about a water you have never fished. The writers believe time with a qualified guide can not only help you learn the water but add a safety factor to be aware of hazards which aren't on maps or your GPS. I hope the writer will understand the request for information for a guide is to help gather good information and not to "buy" a way into a winning tournament. By the way, I have fished over 12 years in PWT and FLW tournaments as a co-anger. One of my goals is to be as helpful to my pro as possible both on and off the water. Thanks, again, for your help. Very well said Gary. I wish ya the best of luck.
Well said, but I thought you weren't supposed to give information to your pro. They are to go it alone,I thought.

Thanks, everyone, for the information and comments. It's true, you cannot provide personal information to your pro who is in charge of all aspects of your fishing day. However, I was able to fish the river a couple Saturdays ago with a guide, Dean McDowell, and learned more about the water than I would have on my own. This information can be shared within your fishing "team" members prior to getting on the water. Once the tournament days start, however, your pro partner is in charge with where to go, what to use, and how to use it. I wish good success to all those who made the cut for the Wal-Mart FLW Outdoors Walleye League Championship at Winona, MN September 8-10! Please join us at the weigh-ins! Take care, fishing friends...Gary Speicher, NPAA #128
Your right, prior too the tourney you can. Good point. And, nothing wrong with hiring a guide. Every tourney I've been too almost all of the pro's seek out local info, whether by guide, baitshops or just local fisherman.
