Hi

The front(s) that passed through Sunday slowed things down a bit on Mille Lacs – the weather has been inconsistent since then and the bite has reflected that somewhat. The mud flats (7-mile, Curley’s and Greg’s) are still your best daytime bet. Crawlers/spinners and leeches are about 50-50... no real edge to either one. With the big wind comes the opportunity to bobber-up on some of these rock reefs again – 3-mile, Agate and Banana have been good starting spots. The gravel is still “hit-or-miss”. The new 22-28 release slot seemed to work out well for more than just a few folks last weekend. Smallmouth are still active on the shallow (3-8 feet) rock reefs – Skitter Pops, Power Craws and tubes are some of the favorite baits. The surface temperature is consistently in the middle 70’s now – usually a good indicator that “muskie season” isn’t far behind. Bucher Tails, Swim Whiz, Awakers and Bulldogs are some of the Mille Lacs favorites.

Remember, the Mille Lacs walleye slot has "loosened" to a 22-28 RELEASE slot. This means you can harvest 4 walleye UNDER 22 inches, or 3 UNDER 22 and 1 OVER 28 inches.

The weather for the weekend looks like this:
Friday: Partly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs around 85. Southeast winds 10 mph.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Lows 65 to 70. South winds 5 to 15 mph.

Saturday: Partly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs around 90. South winds 5 to 15 mph.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Lows 65 to 70.

Sunday and Sunday Night: Partly cloudy. Highs around 90. Lows 60 to 65.

The full moon is 7-21-2005

Finally,
A brain walks into a bar and says, "I'll have a pint of beer please." The barman looks at him and says "Sorry, I can't serve you." "Why not?" asks the brain. "You're already out of your head!"

Have a great weekend,
