Hi

Warm temps again this week! Most of the walleye effort this week has been directed to the first and last couple hours of daylight... the rest of the day has been brutally hot. The mud flats (Sherman’s south tip, 9-mile and 8 mile) have turned out some nice catches. We didn’t see an outstanding favorite – crawlers/spinners, leeches/rigs, leeches/bobbers, rainbows/spinners and deep diving crankbaits all produced their share of fish. The top edge seems to hold most of the active fish. Most of the midday has been taken up with smallmouth, northern and muskie fishing. A few muskie are starting to come out along the weeds in Vineland Bay, Wahkon Bay and by Mac’s. Bucktails have been decent so far... black with an orange blade has been best. Surface temps held steady above 75 degrees, so look for this bite to get continually better over the near future.

Yes, we still have big leeches!

The July 15th “count” on walleye poundage is estimated at 122,000 pounds according to 1837 Treaty Biologist Rick Bruesewitz. This is compared to 58,000 pounds last year at this time.

Finally,
Ole and Lena lived on the banks of a wide deep river. There were no fiords or bridges nearby. Clarence lived across the river; he and Ole would converse by shouting across the water. As time went by they had a falling out and became bitter enemies, often exchanging threats and insults from the opposite banks. Word came that a new bridge was going to be constructed nearby and Ole immediately told Clarence that the day it opened he would be over to beat some sense into him. Clarence replied, “Come on over anytime and I’ll show you.” The day the bridge opened Ole told Lena he was going over to teach Clarence a lesson, then left. But 10 minutes later he returned with a sheepish look on his face. Lena asked, “What’s the matter Ole, did you have your fight with Clarence”? “No, I decided not to fight him”, Ole replied, “Clarence does not look very big from over here, but when I go to the bridge there was a sign that said, Clarence, 10 feet 6 inches.”

Have a great weekend,
