Hi

The late summer bite is still pretty decent – breezy days have produced the most fish, and the shallow rock reefs continue to be the best spots on Mille Lacs. Fish these reefs with a slip bobber/leech in 10 feet of water or less. Some of the better reefs so far this week include Hawksbill, 3-mile and Kings. We still see some fish coming from the tops of the flats with crawler/spinner rigs too... this is a better approach for the calm days. Curly’s Flat, the Needle and Seguchie are each worth a look. The smallmouth bite is spotty, with most of the fish coming off the “2nd tier” in 5-8 feet. Tubes and rattle baits are producing most of the fish. The water is still stained, with visibility scarcely more than 3 feet. Most of the muskie are still “weed oriented” – look to the edges of the cabbage in 10-12 feet. Bulldawgs and bucktails are the top baits.

Yes, we still have big leeches!

The surface temp on Mille Lacs is 68 degrees.
