Here's the scoop. I have set aside for Friday and Saturday (1/4 and 1/5) at the Guest House 10 double rooms. If we are a little over or under that number it's fine. Cost is $45 plus taxes. All you'll have to do is call them and make the reservation in your name. The phone number for the Guest House is 605 886 8061. They're located downtown, the address is 101 N Broadway. Make sure you tell them which nights you'll be staying, and that you give them my name (Dusty Wilkens) so they know which group you're with.

Now, we can meet Friday evening at the Guest House, there is a bar at the hotel, if that will work for everyone?

For those that intend to drive in sometime Saturday, and can't meet friday night, email me and I'll get you my cell phone number, so you can contact us when you arrive (in case we're already fishing :) ).

Sound like a plan?

Now, for food on the ice, anyone have suggestions?

I think I can, I think I can

Make it to watertown on that weekend. Late friday and I won't be needing a room. I would guess I will have 1 or two extra people that are going fishing with me as I will need to use the gear they have. Any way Dusty, if you want to drop me a line with your cell number I will get ahold of you. In case you don't have it anymore my email is Jeremy_ackman@hotmail.com

Eyes we need to find a portable grill.
If we do I will pick up brats for all or about 20 people???.
Other people need to speak up for the buns, chips, beans, macaroni salad, dessert.
1 meal for lunch on Sat would be good.
Are we going to do any fishing on Fri or Sun?
I will be making res for both nights.
How much ice have ya got now?

I'll be fishing friday, and anyone that wants to is welcome to join me. We can try to come up with a plan for saturday that way. I plan to fish sunday also, but I know that some people won't be able to, so I guess it's whoever wants to.

I do not have a portable grill, but I'd be glad to bring buns, potato salad or whatever. Anyone have a grill they'll bring with?

I've been fishing on Mankey's and Maynard's, in the last week. Mankey's has about 5 inches on it, Maynards has about 4 inches on the west end, and in the middle, but in the areas where the geese have been sitting, it's thinner, and even open in one small spot. Temps look good for making good ice in the next couple weeks. That warm spell might have actually helped a little, by getting that little bit of snow off the ice.

I've got a portable gas grill I'll have with me, I'm sure we'll have good ice by Jan. Should be good fishing too....

RE: Grill I have one of those 17.00 portable grills I could bring along, it's suprising what you can cook on them. Our house grill needs to stay in place. Also, my shack heater is one of those that you can lay on it's back and actually cook on it (pan type), but I promise it will not make HORMELL chile taste any better.(long story) As you can tell I can not confirm this JUST yet but gettin close. To the top.!!!!!

The way the temperatures look for this weekend and next week, we should make some more good ice. Last weekend most everything was between 4 and 8 inches of ice, but we're not forecast to get above 26 degrees at any time in the next week, with lows typically being from 0 to 10 degrees. I think we'll have some good ice.

For anyone that's curious, here's the forecast for Watertown.

Eyez ya think we will be driving on the ice with trucks or do ya think it's going to be ATVs and snowmos only.
There will be 4 of us total in my group. Be there about 4 pm or earlier depending how soon I wake up from working the night before.
I'll bring my ATV just in case unless I hear different keep us posted.

I don't know how much ice has formed in the last week with the cold weather, but before that most lakes were between 6 and 8 inches of ice, except Waubay and the other big ones, which were 4-6 inches on average. There were a couple big lakes and sloughs that still had some open water on them, mostly in areas where geese were sitting. I'll try to find out how much ice we made when I get back home (I'm in ND for christmas) on wednesday, and post then. Right now, I'd think that we're 50/50 to be able to drive on the small lakes, and very unlikely that we'll be able to drive on Waubay or any of the big lakes. I'm going to try to get my sled ready to go, or maybe borrow an atv.

Neume, sleds and atvs are no problem, if you have one, I'd suggest bringing it.

I heard that some nice perch were being caught on Waubay last week, and a few other lakes and ponds are starting to pick up, so we should have a good bite going, especially if Pelican turns on again.

Happy Holidays all!

We got the cold now so we will see better ice soon. The forecast looks good for ice development over the next 3 weeks. I do not believe I will be driving on the lakes tell late January?

I have received good reports from the Glacial Lakes Region as well as Big Stone Lake and Traverse Lake, walleye & perch mostly.
