Hi

The ice thickness remains much the same as it was last weekend – we haven’t really lost any, but we haven’t gained much either. High winds and warm temperatures flexed the pressure ridges over the weekend making access tougher in some areas. Now we have about 6 inches of new snow. Most of the resorts have started marking for their roads, and as soon as possible they will pull some smaller houses and allow light vehicle access. If I had to guess, I’d say it will probably be sometime early next week – it just depends on how fast we can gain a couple more inches of ice on the main lake... that’s all we need. For now, walking and atv traffic is common over nearly all of the lake and SOME vehicle traffic in Cove, Wahkon and Isle Bays. The bays have around 12 inches, the main lake is still running around 10. Remember... the snow will cover up most of the “flaws” – go easy!

The perch bite is good. Lots of “close ones”, and a fair number of “keepers”. You’ll need to mix up your presentation, as they become fussy after seeing the same thing for an hour or two. The walleye bite has been decent, with most of the fish coming off the deep gravel and the mud flats. 8-mile, Curley’s Flat and Sloppy Joes have all given up some nice fish again this week in 25-28 feet. Jigging Raps and Rocker Minnows tipped with a fathead are still the best presentation. The northern bite slowed down a bit this week – fish are still crusing, they just got kind of picky. New on the scene this year is the “pout comeback” – waaay more pout than we’ve seen over the past 3 years. Remember, if you’re not going to eat ‘em, throw ‘em back (pg. 20 in the fishing regulations).

The weather for the weekend (from the National Weather Service) looks like this:
Friday: A 40 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high around 18. Wind chill values between -1 and 4. Northwest wind between 11 and 14 mph.

Friday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low near 4. Wind chill values between -2 and -9. West northwest wind between 9 and 14 mph.

Saturday: A 20 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 14. West wind around 9 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 1.

Sunday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 13.

The full moon is 12-15-05

Getting your house ready for the ice? We stock all sorts of "fish house stuff" like thermocouples, regulators, 12V light bulbs, mantles, globes, spark plugs, auger blades, pre-mix auger gas, and LP gas.

Auger dull? We have sharp new blades AND exchange blades in stock for most augers - spark plugs and oil too! Heck, we’ll even fill your auger with pre-mixed gas and oil!

Need help with your Christmas shopping? STOP IN! We have all sorts of gift ideas for your favorite fisherman. Stocking stuffers too! Still undecided? Let them pick out their own "stuff" with a Lundeen's Gift Certificate.

Once again this winter we will be renting FL18’s, power augers, Fish Traps and underwater cameras. Be sure to reserve them ahead to assure availability.

Finally,
A feisty 70 year old woman was arrested for shop lifting. When she went before the judge he asked her, "What did you steal?" She replied: "A can of peaches. The judge then asked her why she had stolen them. She replied: "Because I was hungry." The judge then asked her how many peaches were in the can. She replied "6". The judge then said, "I will give you 6 days in jail." After the judge pronounced the punishment the woman's husband spoke up and asked the judge if he could say something. The judge allowed him to speak and asked "What is it?" The husband said, "She also stole a can of peas."

Have a great weekend,
