Thinking about a fall trip to the Bowstring Chain. What can I expect for average size for walleye, northern, and crappie? What sizes are possible? What would be the best area to stay at to utilize the chain to my advantage? Any suggestions for a resort? Can you navigate by boat from Bowstring through Big Sand and Little Sand into Rice Lake or do you have to trailer the boat?

I have had some very good crappie action on Bowstring. Big ones and lots of them. There are cribs planted in the lake that hold the crappies.
Haven't heard much about anything else on this chain. Sand Lake has good crappies as well. Don't know about travel between the lakes.
Let us know how you do.

Thanks, Bob for the info.
Has anyone stayed in a resort on any of the lakes? Can you tell me anything about the northern and walleye fishing.

I have fished Bowstring for probably ten years. In the fall you can usually find walleye, especially in September. I have also caught a lot of crappie and perch. As far as the northern, it is pretty easy to limit out, they are everywhere. There are some bigger ones, but an abundance of pound to pound and a half fish. As far as a resort, Snug Harbor Resort on the north end of the lake is very nice. I have never stayed in any of their cabins, but have camped there. (snugharborresort.com) There are several other resorts on the lake as well. The nice part about the lake is that if you aren't catching anything, the scenery is awesome. Lots of undeveloped shore line and eagles are loons are very common sites.
