Was in the Iowa Great Lakes on business early this week, my family was there spending a few days. My nephew Sam wanted to catch a smallmouth. He has caught lots of of walleyes, LM bass, catfish, and all the panfish, but no smallmouth, musky, or northern pike.

We went to Spirit Lake, found a windblown reef, and started throwing a variety of plastics on a jig head. Sam caught a walleye, then had something smack his bait. "This is no walleye", he yelled. First smallmouth, 18 inches. We caught a bunch more walleyes and smallmouth before the sun went down. Great trip.

I was wondering if you were fishing in the IGl's this week. I saw you going down the road as I was picking my daughter up from daycare. Did you try any top water lures toward dark I have had good action on whites, Smallies, and Largemouth on top towards sunset. If you beleive it or not I have been catching a few Walleyes this way. Otherwise a split shot and leech casted close to shore towards sunset is sure bet for a limit of eater eyes-Ripper
P.S. I was in a older white Cavalier convertable
