Traveled throughout MN last week, action for the most part was very good.
Started off fishing several lakes around and west of Alexandria. Lots of weedline bass in the 1 1/2-4 pound range. Lip-Stick Jig-Worm with 7 inch Power Worms were the hot set-up. This combination is a killer throughout the summer months.
Then traveled to Leech Lake, fished largemouth bass with bass ace John Crane. Caught good numbers of really nice bass in the shallows on Leech. Reed-Runner spinnerbaits and Jawbreaker spoons were used. This is exciting fishing, you see most of the strikes. It's tough to not set the hook right away when using the Jawbreakers. You need to drop the rod tip to the fish before setting. No particular area was best, there were fish scattered throughout the shallows.
Tried Upper Red Lake last Wednesday, really tough. I never thought URL could get so tough, but it did. Where they were catching dozens of walleyes the previous week, we could only get a couple. It will turn on again.
Finished up fishing a small lake near Bemidji with Travis Peterson and his son Jace. Jace is 7, but really knows his way around a fishing pole. We caught lots of bass and crappies. Was wonderful seeing a young dad teaching his young son how to fish and how to enjoy the entire outdoor experience.
Fishing reports throughout the Midwest are very good, make sure you take advantage of this action.
