The
Weekend Outlook
6-23-2006
Hi
High winds moved many Mille Lacs anglers off their local "hot spots" onto new, calmer waters and guess what... THEY STILL CAUGHT FISH! Even after a month of excellent fishing, most folks are finding that the bite is as good as it's been since the opener. The spinner bite is in full swing - fish 'em with a crawler, leech or a rainbow. Some on the better colors include gold, pink and green. Make sure you're using enough weight... you will need to kick your speed up around .8-1.2mph to fish spinners effectively. In 25+ feet of water, this typically means you will use 1-2 ounces. The most common mistake folks make when fishing spinners is that they don't use enough weight. You can cover some serious distance at this speed - be sure to cover the tops, edges and deep water on the piece of structure you're fishing until you pinpoint your fish. Live bait rigging and bobber fishing are still good too, but there's nothing more fun than having a walleye rip the rod back after he grabs your spinner! We didn't notice a significant difference between the mud or gravel this week. Some of the better starting spots include the 4-mile Gravel, Highway Bar, Buster's Flat and 8-Mile.
The surface temperature is 67 degrees.
The weather for the weekend (from the National Weather Service) looks like this:
This Afternoon: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4pm. Partly cloudy, with a high near 77. West wind between 6 and 8 mph.
Tonight: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 53. North northwest wind between 3 and 7 mph.
Saturday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 76. East northeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm.
Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 51. Calm wind becoming north between 5 and 8 mph.
Sunday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a high near 77. North northwest wind between 7 and 9 mph.
The new moon is Sunday, 6-25-2006
Having company this weekend? We have "Vacation Packs" of nightcrawlers already in bedding - great for larger groups!
Don't to check out our weekly "shop special" at http://www.lundeens.com/shop.html.
Finally... We have enough youth, how about a fountain of SMART?
Have a great weekend,
