It has been almost 15 years since I have done any Walleye fishing and I have never fished Lake Winnebago. So I am asking for some general help so that we can improve the odds of at least getting some fish. Our 14 year old son would like to “catch the bug” about fishing now that he has caught the “bug about hunting” (first deer last year with only firing one shot).

We are staying at a campground on the lake (Kalbus’ Country Harbor) the week of July 17th, about half way between Oshkosh and Fond du Lac on the west side of the lake.

If someone could point us to “general” areas where we “might” be able the find Walleyes we would GREATLY appreciate it.

As an OLD fisherman myself I know that when I was catching fish and someone asked where I was getting them and what I was using I would say, “Out in the lake with the right type of bait.” Fisherman tend to “protect” information about how they are catching fish, soooooo provide what you are willing to part with, but I will personally assure you that I will not pass it on to anyone, other than my 14 year old son.

This is this first time I have posted to this board so I do not fully know your rules about contact info, so I will hang in there and await your comments. My personal email and/or fax number will be available if the rules allow the posting of that info.

Thanks,

Sandburr and Son

Although I have yet to fish for Walleye in Winnebago I do know where a good bait and tackle shop is:

Many fishermen never Kalbus reef.If you don't like it there, fish Long point and the surrounding mud.No reason to go anywhere else.

While you're there, treat yourself to dinner at Blanckes'Lake Aire Supper Club.Good food, reasonably priced, nice bar and the soups on the salad bar are worth the price of the meal. It's about 5 miles south of where you're staying on #45.

If you get out early in the AM you will see all the trollers where they are getting them. Also in the evenings. Should not be hard to figure out.
