There are some many personal preferences when it comes to rods, especially jigging rods. Here are my ideas.
For casting light jigs, 1/8th ounce and less, I am liking 6'6"-7' medium light to light action rods. They cast the light jigs well and also do a good job with 6 pound test line. I also like the lighter actions as they are so much more forgiving. If a walleye has inhaled your jig and you didn't notice, as you lift the rod the fish won't feel as much resistance, and they are likely to hang on longer, giving you more of a chance to set the hook.
When using plastic on the jig, I like a 6'6" rod, but a little stiffer, medium to medium heavy. You sometimes need a little more backbone to set the hook with plastic, and also to snap the jig off vegetation, or to snap vegetation off the jig.
In deep water with heavier jigs, I like a medium-medium heavy rod for the additional hook-setting ability, but FireLine allows you to use a medium or lighter action if you prefer.
There are some rods in the Series One models that make excellent jigging rods, and the price is very good for the quality.
Perhaps the best value in rods are the new Lightning Rods. They offer a lot of features at very good price.
Hope this helps, be sure to post if you have other questions.
