The
Weekend Outlook
8-10-2006
Hi
Walleye fishing on Mille Lacs has slowed to a pretty typical mid-August level - not dead, but noticicably slower than the bite we saw just a few weeks ago. The windy days have rewarded the "bobber guys" in 12 feet or less of water - throw a leech (yes, we still have leeches) and a slip bobber over your favorite rock pile. It's not unusual to catch a walleye or two off a single anchor set, but it IS unusual to take more than 2 fish without relocating. You don't need to move to the other side of the lake... often just a few boat lengths from your current spot. Stay mobile, be persistent and you should be able to string a decent mess of fish together. Smallmouth fishing is relatively unchanged from the last month - stay in 3-7 feet by the biggest rocks you can find. Muskie fishing is still muskie fishing... lots of casts, some sightings and "swirls" and the occasional hook-up. Bulldawgs and bucktails have been the best so far.
Yes, we still have big leeches!
Surface temps remain in the mid-70's.
The weather for the weekend (from the National Weather Service) looks like this:
Friday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. East southeast wind between 7 and 11 mph.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 62. Southeast wind around 7 mph.
Saturday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Partly cloudy, with a high near 83. South southeast wind between 6 and 8 mph.
Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 63.
Sunday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78.
The last quarter moon is 8-16-2006.

Finally, There was a blonde woman who was having financial troubles so she decided to kidnap a child and demand a ransom. She went to a local park, grabbed a little boy, took him behind a tree and wrote this note: "I have kidnapped your child. Leave $10,000 in a plain brown bag behind the big oak tree in the park tomorrow at 7 A.M. signed, the Blonde." She then pinned the note inside the little boy's jacket and told him to go straight home. The next morning, she returned to the park to find the $10,000 in a brown bag behind the big oak tree, just as she had instructed. Inside the bag was the following note: "Here is your money. I cannot believe that one blonde would do this to another!"
Have a great weekend,
