The
Weekend Outlook
8-17-2006
Hi
Another week of pretty decent mid-August fishing rewarded Mille Lacs anglers again this week - with only a handful of folks fishing the big lake now, there is little competition for the "spot-on-the-spot". The deep trolling bite is still turning out some fish, but the bulk of the walleye are being caught in less than 12 feet of water. With the right wind, you can anchor up on almost any legitimate rock pile and land a few walleye. You will probably find that you will need to move often, as Mother Nature seems to have put a 2 fish limit on any single spot... a fish or two, and many of these spots mysteriously dry up! You can re-visit then a couple hours later and do it all over again. It has been uncommon to be able to sit in only one spot. You can see the value of setting up a "milk run" of several spots - fish 'em for a while, then move on to the next one. Leeches (yes, we still have leeches) and slip bobbers are the ticket. You will likely happen upon a few smallmouth with this same approach.
Yes, we still have big leeches!
The surface temperature remains in the low 70's.
The weather for the weekend (from the National Weather Service) looks like this:
Friday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. Light wind becoming northeast between 10 and 13 mph.
Friday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58. East wind around 14 mph.
Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a high near 76. Breezy, with a east southeast wind 13 to 20 mph becoming west.
Saturday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy and breezy, with a low around 53.
Sunday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 81.
The new moon is 8-23-2006.
Don't forget to check out our weekly "shop special" at http://www.lundeens.com/shop.html.
If things go as planned, this will be the last week you will receive the Weekend Outlook in it's current format. Very soon (hopefully by next Thursday) we will be switching to an HTML format ONLY - no more plain text. This may cause a handful of subscribers to miss an issue or two until they get their incoming mail to recognize our weekly letter. This new change should allow us to compose the Weekend Outlook in a single, easy to read edition. We will convert all the subscriptions to HTML from here - you don't need to alter your subscription (only, perhaps your "accept mail from..." settings on your computer). If you miss an issue or simply cannot live with the prospect of receiving an HTML email, you're always welcome to read the report on our website at http://www.lundeens.com . We hope you will enjoy the new look.
Finally, How does a NASCAR fan count?.... 1,2,Dale,4,5,6,7,Junior,9,10.
Have a great weekend,
