Hi
What a difference a few windy days makes! We've said right along that wind=walleye and the past few days we're seeing it - good catches in 5-12 feet of water over the shallow rock reefs. Slip bobbers and leeches (yes, we still have leeches!) on a small jig (black, purple, blue) are the ticket. Be sure to fish the windy reefs... it can make a BIG difference between success and zip. Around dark, these same areas are good too, but the best sundown spots seem to be in 32-34 feet again with leeches/slip bobbers. These areas are typically mud or gravel. There's no need to pull an "all nighter" yet... things tend to slow down by 10:30. The trolling bite has been "hit-or-miss" so far - look for that to improve as the water temperature drops. Muskie action was spotty this week, northern action was good in Vineland. Smallies seem to be beginning to taper-off a bit, due in part to the renewed interest of walleye fishing. A bonus this weekend may be the perch fishing - some scattered "jumbos" are starting to show up around the shallows already. Vineland Bay and Malone Island have been thte best areas so far this week.
Yes, we still have leeches!
