Hi
We're starting to see more folks each afternoon, making the pilgrimage to Mille Lacs to gear up for some fall-full moon trolling! The lake level has come up a few inches since its low point around Labor Day - that's not to say that every access is perfect, rather, some of the ramps that were marginal have become usable again. Angling success has been mixed up to this point - some are reporting "double-digit" catches, others are struggling to bring even a couple to the boat. All agree that most of the walleye being caught are BIG. The best bite has been in 5-9 feet of water. Some of the better baits include Husky Jerks, F-13's, Shallow Shads , Rattlin'Rogues and Lil' Rippers. The top colors have been blue, clown and fire tiger. There are reefs and rock shorelines all around the lake that are traditionally great for fall trolling - depending on what the wind does, you'll surely have several "A" spots to choose from.
The surface temperature is 49 degrees.
The reef markers have all been removed from Mille Lacs. The water level is well below "normal"... go easy!
Yes, we STILL have leeches!

Don't forget to check out our weekly "shop special" at http://www.lundeens.com/shop.html .
Just a reminder for all you deer hunters... Consider picking up your deer license(s) early – odds are HUGE you’ll get stuck behind someone who “forgot” their firearms safety certificate or their Social Security number! Also... Page 73 of the big game book says, “ The person whose tag is on the deer must personally present the deer at an official registration station and receive a Big Game Possession Tag.” While this has been the law for years, some hunters will find this procedure “new”.
With deer hunting right around the corner, don’t forget... bring in your hides during the month of November and we’ll trade you for a pair of gloves! We’ll take small hides too, but they’re 2 hides for a pair of gloves OR 1 hide and $4.
We are a Big Game Registration Station – registration hours will be 8am – 6pm... slightly later on weekends.
This will be the last weekend Outlook for the open water season. We will start up again as the bays on the south end begin to freeze. Our website, www.lundeens.com will be updated periodically until we see ice, then we will resume the regular ice and fishing updates. We would like to thank all of you who supported us through this past season - your patronage is truly appreciated.
Finally, The Up-North Chronicle had heard that Ole was coming up to his 110th birthday so they sent one of their reporters to interview him. "How do you account for your longevity?" asked the reporter. "You could say that I am a health nut," Ole answered. "I have never smoked or drunk alcohol, I am always in bed by ten o'clock, I've been going to folk dance classes since I was a teenager and I've always walked three miles a day, even in rain or snow." "But," said the reporter, "my uncle Lars followed exactly the same routine and he died when he was 75. So how come it didn't work for him?" "All I can say," replied Ole "is that he didn't keep it up long enough."
Have a great weekend,
Bill Lundeen
