Lots of fishing and travel recently.
Started in northeast corner of South Dakota last week, fished the small lakes around Roy Lake with walleye ace/guide Joe Honer. Weather was drizzly, windy, and cold, walleyes bit good. Mostly fished shorelines that had sand and gravel. Threw 3 and 4 inch Gulp! minnows and Mimic Minnow jigs heads. When we found a pod of fish, the action was fast. Walleyes up to 24", lots of small ones due to the cold front.
On the last day the sky was full of mallards that were just arriving. Fun to see so many ducks.
Traveled to the Wisconsin River near the Wisconsin Dells and fished with Big Dave Ehardt. Dave really knows that stretch of river, he's guided there 17 years.
River was fluctuating a lot. Up 5 feet overnight, then dropped 3 feet during the day. Crappies were scattered, but we still caught a bunch of 10 inchers. Not as big as Dave had been catching, but still lots of nice fish. Tough to stay on them when the river is changing so quickly.
One stretch of highway in Wisconsin seemed to have a roadkill deer every hundred yards for several miles. Crazy.
Now is a great time to go fishing. Get out there when you get the chance.
