Hi

Cold temperatures have helped the ice conditions this week on Mille Lacs - most of the resorts now have roads that allow driving at least a mile or more onto the lake... some even up to several miles. Check with the resort before you access for their latest road conditions.

The walleye bite has been spotty - we've talked to a lot of folks that have hit some fish at prime time (first and last light, although last light has been a little better), but struggled on the walleye through the mid-day. Most did, however, fill in with some decent perch catches. Jiggin' Raps and Vertiglo Spoons tipped with a fathead have worked well on the jig lines while a jumbo tear with a shiner minnow is the best on your set line. Don't be afraid to use some wax worms on the perch. The gravel has been better than the mud so far this week - some of the better areas include the mid-gravel, Big gravel, Spirit Island and the 20 footer.

Yes, we still have shiners.

Don't forget to check out our weekly "shop special" at http://www.lundeens.com/shop.html .

Once again this winter we will be renting FL20’s, power augers, Fish Traps and underwater cameras. Be sure to reserve them ahead to assure availability.

Finally, On duty as a customer-service rep for a car-rental company, I took a call from a driver who needed a tow. He was stranded on a busy highway, but he didn't know the make of the car he was driving. I asked again for a more detailed description beyond "a blue four-door." After a pause, the driver replied, "It's the one on fire!"

Have a great weekend,
