The ice is still holding up nicely in most areas - the thickness in most places will put you "up to the handles" of your auger. Some of the exposed accesses are showing signs of deterioration from the sun... these spots will soon become "ATV-only" points. Most of the "north-facing" accesses are still in good shape. Travel is good, other than the areas where the snow has piled up along the abandoned roads... it's advisable to stay off of those spots.
The perch bite on Mille Lacs is "hit-or-miss" - most of the fish we're seeing are still coming from deep (30-34 feet) water, but there are some strays being taken in 9-12 feet toward Vineland Bay. The crappie bite in Isle Bay has attracted quite a crowd... some days there's more people than fish! The most consistent bite comes in the morning from 7-9, but there are also some windows around 2 in the afternoon and again around dark. Weigh what you read and hear carefully... this is not a "every hole, every day" bite. Use a whole crappie minnow on a light bobber rig and a Lunar Grub or Ju-Ju tipped with a wax worm or maggot on your jig line. A spring bobber on your jig rod helps a lot!

Finally, Upon entering a little country store, a stranger noticed a sign reading, "Danger! Beware of Dog" posted on the glass door. Inside, he noticed a harmless old hound dog asleep on the floor besides the cash register. He asked the store manager, "Is that the dog folks are supposed to beware of?" "Yep, that's him," he replied. The stranger couldn't help but be amused. "That certainly doesn't look like a dangerous dog to me. Why in the world would you post that sign?" "Because," the owner replied, "before I posted that sign, people kept tripping over him!"
