I lived in the Walker area in the early 80's, great area. However, it has changed a lot since then. There is a place on 371 north of town, maybe the Ranch House, that had good food. The Village Square used to have great pizza, The Outdoorsman had outstanding breakfasts and sandwiches. Can't tell you what the situation is at any of those places now.
There is a place next to Subway that has bait, that's where we always used to get it.
Walleyes should be around the area where the river comes in, also try Little Hardwood. Fish the wind. If you get the same wind for a day or two,the walleyes will move up very shallow. Leech Lake walleyes are very wind-oriented.
Don't hesitate to get off Leech and fish bass in some of the smaller lakes around the area. There is also some outstanding bass fishing in Leech Lake in the areas where there is vegetation in the shallows.
Outstanding area, wish I had more current knowledge of what is going on up there.
Let us know how the trip goes for you. Drive carefully.

we always try steamboat bay for small pike if all else fails, casting into the edges of the rice. if you need tackle, there is a large store called reeds on main street walker. my family has been having a summer outing on leech for 50+ yrs. i haven't personally been up there for about 3 yrs.

I have been on Leach Lake two days in the last week and have had great fishing both days. Jig and rainbows seemed to work best. Once you found the fish, most boats were catching fish. I boated 8 the first day with 4 keepers.
Bait was purchased just north of Walker about a 1-2 miles on 371 on east side.
Boulders restaurant is also up that way about 1 mile and is very, very Good but spendy!
Reeds sporting goods is right down town with very knowledgeable staff for the current info on hot spots.
Hope this helps.
