This is one for you diehard hunters!
This bear was killed down on Hitchenbrook Island, Alaska by an airman stationed at Elmendorf.
The guy was walking to his hunting area and the bear stood up only 35 yards away. The bear dropped down and went straight for him. He emptied his gun and the bear fell 10 yards from him.
Check out the size of the paw in relation to the guy's head!!! The bear measured 12' 6" and was estimated at over 1600lbs.
This guy has to be a real cool customer. I would have been bear bait for sure. 1) I don't walk through the woods with a loaded weapon and 2) I would probably have been carrying the bolt action.
Think about this the next time you hear a snap in the brush while leaving your stand at night. Yeow!

Nice pics and details. This would truely be a test of nerves and how well you could shoot...........something the size of that would be tough to miss at that range but tack on some fear and adrenaline..........I too would probably be bear food............

Those pictures are soooo fake, and if you go to the link, the bottom picture confirms the "fakeness" You can also tell by how their faces reflect and the surroundings don't. They just took pics of themselves and used photoshop to edit it. Oh yea, the blood is pretty fake too on the bears nose.

Thanks for pointing in the right direction. I had a feeling the story was a little long on fear plus.... Like I said, I was merely forwarding an e-mail and figured someone here would have the real skinny. It was too amazing to pass up. :-)
I have no doubt the pics are real. As an "amateur" photographer, I have many flash shots with a pocket camera that produce the exact same flash results that their's did. Bright forground and dark background. In fact, that can ofton be used to wash out the background and highlight the foreground. Like when you are taking a picture of your catch in the shadows. The lake behind is bright and, without the flash, we would see a dark silohete of you and the fish - no detail and a bad picture. Happens all the time. With the flash, you would be nice and clear. Either way, you can believe this or not. It is a big bear!

The big game forum and the alaska forum have quite a bit of info on this. The guy who claims to have shot the bear replied to my post there. I was questioning the validity of the pics too.
If it is real, you could have scooped me up in a warm steamy pile if that bruin was charging at me.

I will "run my mouth" untill I meet this guy. I don't believe those pictures are real. I have never experienced problems with a camera that turned out to look like a photoshop edited pic. You can believe they are real and you are probably right. I will stop running my mouth now.:)
And I thought I was cynical. :)

I did think the picture looked fake too. Because they do look fake. But I know a guy that seen the bear also, not just the pics. Sorry if I sounded like I was trying to be a prick or something. I just dont state things clearly enuff
