Getting ready to purchase a set of handlining reels very soon. I remember hearing about someone making a video a few months ago. Who was it or where can I get one if it's done? I want to have a good idea of what I'm doing when spring time comes. Thanks!

WOW! Someone actually read that article? Thanks SS2! ;-)
After reviewing it though, there is much I could expand on in that article. That one was written when I first learned that technique. I have gained a lot more skill and knowledge since then, so I guess
I will have to write another one to update it.

Can handlineing be used on lakes or is it strictly for rivers?

Like Keith, I have used it in Erie also. I dont really care for it in open water if only for the fact that its hard to run additional lines like in a traditional trolling spread, you need to pay close attention to the handline rig at all times.
Does work, though.

I have seen it done in deep lakes 30ft. and deeper, with some good sucess.

You would be surprised how many folks read and enjoyed your article Juls. Everyone can pick up a tip or two from your article. I live in St. Clair and handline the river as many folks do around here. You need to get your baits down to the bottom because the fish can't fight the strong current we have around here so they hug that bottom. We are literally downrigging with our weights bouncing right on bottom = handlining. I have met Keith at a local Lake St. Clair Walleye Association meeting and the topic that night was handlining of course. I am sure any video he would put out on the subject is worth viewing. Again, everyone can pick up a tip or two from a veteran..gilly

Pat..Although I don't get on the river often, we will be fishing a spring river tournament. Is handlining something we could pick up quickly or will this take some time/practice? We won't have alot of prefishing time and sure hate to be practicing on tournament day!

if you update it I will read it again
thanx

Im sure Pat is busy with the Packers game.
I can tell you that you can learn the basics fairly quickly, the finer points will take some time, like any other method.

Gilligan,
Handlining is a technique that can be picked up very quickly.
I started out by reading an article by Keith Krych. And then I had the pleasure to be taught by two of the guys doing it for quite some time. Marty Sevilla Handlining for 51 years, Keith Krych 18 years.
Keith has written probably the best & most informative article I have ever read. He breaks everything down for a person. I think you would gain quite a bit from reading it. You can either check perchjerker's earlier response for a site that has the article.
Or keep an eye on the RCL website, I believe it will be printed there shortly. I apologize if I seem vague but I don't want this response to appear as a blatant sales pitch for Cavins & Krych. Thanks Pat
