: What is going on with this site?
Schnauzer 02-04-2004, 02:42 PM I posted a question asking what the "bone yard" is earlier today. As near as I can tell, it got dusted somehow. It was a simple question. Maybe I am just missing it somehow but I can't find it right now even with a search.
What is going on? I've been a regular visitor to this site for a long time and I am feeling a big change in the volume of the material being eliminated from this discussion board. Maybe it is just my own perception. But, if this simple question was dusted, what is safe?
Disgusted 02-04-2004, 02:48 PM I agree. way too many questions and comments are being NUKED by the moderators. I guess they have a power complex or something.
Sunshine 02-04-2004, 03:08 PM Go to the lobby! You'll find the Bone Yard there.
I don't like speaking on behalf of WC.... I'm not associated with them in any way except that I'm here too much ;-)...... BUT, It appears to me that the bone yard is a place where threads go when they ran their course and have little value left.
I think it's a good move. You can still read the thread if you like and it doesn't clutter the web site. Maybe the days of seeing the same post week after week because some people just won't let it go, are gone for good!
THX 1138 02-04-2004, 03:10 PM It's their ball - and there are alternatives
pwrfshn 02-04-2004, 03:20 PM Schnauzer,
Please understand that if something goes, there is a lot of thought behind deleting it.
Contrary to what some who choose to remain nameless will claim, there are no power complexes here, just following the rules the site has in place to keep it running and FREE to the end user.
For those who choose to bad mouth or degrade the moderators for doing their jobs, I challenge you to let yourself be known and find one topic that has been deleted or edited that was not in direct violation of the rules.
Get a little hot under the collar when people call the integrity of the site into question, but it is not my site, I only speak for myself. ONE OF THE UNPAID PEOPLE THAT HELP TO KEEP THE SITE FREE AND CLEAN OF CONTENT NOT FIT FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC.
As one other person pointed out, this is not the only place on the net, just the best IMHO.
As a side note, I'm not sure why your post was deleted either outside of the fact that other similar posts have brought negative comments out of the woodwork and it just gets old after a while.
Thanks for understanding,

Yes, but the question remains un-answered! Why was Shnauzer's post deleted?

Just in case you missed my reply in the above post.
Tourney Fan 02-04-2004, 03:49 PM I think we all have figured out that individual replies can also be deleted. The original post was a valid subject! I read it a couple times today and it was not heading to the toilet. One post must have made someone dust the entire thread. That is what is at issue here. Too many entire threads getting nuked for no good reason. And that is Nuked, not sent to the Boneyard!
pwrfshn 02-04-2004, 03:56 PM All I can say for myself is that SOMETIMES it is too time consuming to dissect a thread that is so far off the topic it is ridiculous. Posts getting "hijacked", people putting stuff in to get things deleted, and all the rest of that garbage has no business here.
It is just as frustrating to me to see what happens to perfectly innocent posts' when there is no reason for it. People will be people and that is life and we deal with it the best way we can.
Again, if you don't like the way a particular thread was handled, take it up with the owner and the person paying the bills, Mr. Golden. He is very responsive and will give you an answer if one is due.
Sorry we aren't living up to everybody's expectations, but you know what they say, you can't please everyone all the time. We have to side with the majority and keep the site appealing to the largest number of people.
Thanks again for your comments,
Tourney Fan 02-04-2004, 04:18 PM Well, I hope you or whomever dusted Schnauzers post takes the time to contact him personally and explain. He at least deservers that.
As for those "canned" responses, they are getting old.
pwrfshn 02-04-2004, 04:23 PM None of my responses are canned, they are just as ill thought out as most of the things I reply to like this (save for Schnauzers legitimate question), but then again you've given me a good idea. Keep a copy of this so after the next 12 million posts go by and someone or yourself asks the question again, I can just paste what I said the last time.
After Scott reads my replies here, my status as a moderator may be adjusted ;) , but I'd rather be one of the contributors that gets to speak his mind and reply to posts like this as one of the crowd just so you don't think my position has gone to my head.
My .02,
