I will be doing quite a bit of trolling next summer-with boards- and I would like to know what is the best trolling line? Precision Trolling guide bases depths on 10# mono- why should I change? I have searching the archive for trolling info(great stuff in there) and want to do it right the first time. Thanks in advance.

10 lb. xt green. It works great and you can see it.

The Book Precision was done with the line dia of
.0134. Instead of looking at the line poundage use the dia as a basis for you line choice. I have been using Mason T-Line for my trolling with boards and bouncers for several years. I use the 14# test which has a line dia of .014. By using the dia line a little bigger if I find that the fish I'm targeting are at a certian depth I would rather be a little higher then lower as the fish look up not down.
The T-Line is a Co-polymer line and is shown to be very durable when being used with the boards being clipped on and off. The added treat with the 14# is that when you do snag up it gives you a bit of added strength to get your lure back. Good luck and good fishing.

Foreyes,

There is also a section in the book that allows you to convert from using 10lb XT to any other line including Fireline. I would not make that my only choice but simplicity helps. I would however definitely say whatever line you choose stick with it on all setups. I have been using 14lb Fireline for the last 3 seasons for fishing Erie/Saginaw Bay, love it. You should do a search, there is a ton of info in past threads on what line is used for trolling, they all have advantages/disadvantages.

Power Pro gets my vote. I make a good part of my living out of my boat and it's the best thing going for me until below freezing temps. Just don't forget to set the drag light enough. 6 lb dia. - 20 lb test or 8 lb dia. - 30 lb test. Just in case, NO they are not one of my sponsers. Wish they were though. Hutch

I'm far from an expert, but after trying several lines out there, like Hutch says, PowerPro was the ticket. Not one problem with it. It just doesn't have the big name backing like Berkly, DuPont etc, but it is slowly becoming a fan favorite. Just make sure you use a different backing otherwise everything else is the same.
