The Colorado Legislative Joint Budget Committee has decided to cut 3 million dollars from the General Fund Contribution to the Colorado State Park System. What does this mean? Closing Spinney, Barr Lake and Harvey Gap resevoirs to the Public. Don't care? How about closing Bonny, Jackson, John Martin, N. Sterling and Trinidad three days week also! Anybody still want to tell me the current governer and his administration are friendly to us outdoorsman?
These are the suggestion's by the Legislative Joint Budget Committee. Now Governer Owens has to sign off on them. What do you think he will do? I have zero faith in Owens, he is just a bean counter and has never particularly been a friend of sportsmen.
You see the state parks that we anglers use the most are not neccasarily the ones that generate the most revenue. Guess what? all those PWCs we despise so much actually generate more revenue!
If I have time today I will try to dig up some e-mail adrresses so everyone can vent a little. This is just another reason I wish I lived in Fort Collins (or any other state). I would buy a Wyoming fishing license and just drive north.

I haven't launched my boat to fish in Colorado for 4 years now. I live in Longmont and always head for WY or NE. There are way to many idiots on the water in CO for me. I'm sure the other states get tired of all of us "greenies" invading but I'd rather drive 4 hours to fish than put up with the locals.

I don't mind driving a couple of extra hours if the fishing is worth it and I can get away from all the PWCs! Losing Spinney would really piss me off!!
Anybody ever try Wilson Resevoir in Central Kansas? It is about a 6-7 hour drive from Denver, but it is supposed to be good for Stripers and Walleye's.

You can call your County Clerk & Recorder's office and get the names and phone numbers of your state senator and representative. Call them and tell them how strongly you feel about this issue!!! The last thing we Colorado fishermen need is closure of the limited and crowded public waters we have.

Neal,
I also heard this report, but I thought this action had been rescinded!?!? In my opinion, our government always tries to cut back in ways that will "hurt" the public, rather than looking at efficiencies in their present workforce which have little outward effects. This is used as a strategy to try to mitigate future cuts by the voting public. I think that cuts should be administered by an independent auditor. Oh well.
Regards,
I know some Wyomingnites don't like all those "Greenies" invading our reservoirs. I don't mind as long as you bring your money into the state and wait to fill up your tanks when you get here. I'm sure the people at Howard's in Glendo would agree with me. That place makes a killin I bet! I also believe most "greenies" coming up to Wyoming and practice selective harvest, which is great. In my eyes, you are all welcome as long as you save me some fish and a campin spot!
That's to bad about your state parks. When I do talk to "greenies" at the lakes here, they tell me N Sterling, Bonnie and Jackson are some of the only decent walleye waters in Colorado. That would be a shame to lose that limited resource. Also sounds like the sportsman in Colorado need to ousts a governer and vote somebody else in!

If they have rescinded it, the post needs to publish it?
It's bad enough to be constantly worried about the drought, we shouldn't have to worry about the idiots we elect and pay messing with us also!

I don't know about all of the parks that are listed but I live near Jackson and they Just built a $300,000 Ranger station and have at least 3-4 full time rangers and a couple of boats. And by the end of July you cant get a boat in. Sterling State Park is similar. Why dont they leave the lakes open every day, untill they get low....then consider a part time schedule. And maybe reduce staff to 1-2 sell a couple of 4x4's and a patrol boat. I have a friend from Minnesota that finds our State Parks system amusing, they probably manage more water per Ranger than Colorado has on the east slope LOL... Just making a point. I'm sure that State Parks is going to cut me a check on a prorated basis for the days I could'nt use my Parks Pass.
Good fishing!

Hey Mike,
I agree with you. I have passes for both my truck and my wife's car. When during the weekends in summer when Pueblo gets crowded I head to Trinidad, but if they are going to limit days or close the said parks, someone got reemed. Rebates sound good to me.

I also found it very conveinant that this was announced after most people bought their park passes and fishing licenses.
I drove over Cherry Creek dam today and didn't see any nets out yet?

Might have to invest in a share of the local water skiers lake that has walleyes in it. Look at what Larimer County gets for annual permits. I might just have to take up poetry and hang-out at Starbucks. Collie

Hi Neal,
I fished there several years ago and Wilson is a great lake, we caught Stripers, Walleye and alot of White Bass and a couple Smallmouth. The water is high in salinity and the stripers do well. We were there in April. Watch out when the weather warms it is a wicked area for bad storms!
Good fishing!

When I was younger and Pueblo was still not full, we had that lake to ourselves and once the word got out and the lake really took on water the masses invaded from the Denver area and it pissed us off as they seemed to lack any common sense or curtesy and that was that, it got to the point if some one saw you catch a fish, they would zip over and pull right next to you and crowd in. If we have spoiled Glendo, I would say thats your Game and Fish not doing a better job of watching whats going out the gate. I personally have not kept more then 10 fish in more then 10 years of fishing there and have enjoyed the area and the lake. Sorry you fill this way, just dont pull my hitch pin as thats what I have heard happens on occassion. Collie, third generation "Greenie" A.K.A Colorodent
