View Full Version : Great Lakes Walleye Classic
I've been out of the loop for a while. What ever happened to the Great Lakes Walleye Classic circuit? I thought I read over the winter that it was going to have events with a guaranteed first prize of $10,000.
I take it the circuit no longer exists? Did the owners sell or what is the reason its gone? It sounded like a good deal for anglers.

Never got off the ground. First tournament had a low turnout and all the rest were cancelled.

SW, Not true! We had 62 boats in the first event on Saginaw Bay. My problem was, we never had any entrys from the Ohio Region. That through the whole championship out of whack. Unfortunately, if I would have held the first event, I would have been obligated to have the rest. With no entrys from Ohio, I could not put the numbers together. But, to let you know, we're not going away forever. We're going to re-group and come out again. This time, maybe, just one event for a guaranteed $25,000.00. What do you think? Cheers, Bo
Seems like I remember there being 20 - 25 boats in your first tournament.

I believe that he was talking about the first event on Saginaw Bay last year.
That is the one I'm refering to as well.

I participated in the kick-off GLWC event on Saginaw. I'm thinking Bo just transposed the numbers and meant to type "26". Give the guy a break - he had good intentions. Never did get that lanyard though...

There's not a big pool of Ohio anglers willing to cough up the money for a tournament and travel. Don't blame it on us cause the numbers were never there in the first place and if someone told you they were then they led you wrong. GLWC's constant rule changes and inability to put numbers on payouts caused concern as well and that took from an already small pool of anglers.
That's changing slowly as the LEWT tries to get a solid footing but even at $150 it's a tough sell. Once we have an established well run circuit on Erie then you can try to make it happen again but don't try to blame people that were never there in the first place.
