View Full Version : Ron Seelhoff
This guy has made the most money on the PWT and has the most wins! And he is fishing out of an older Lund tiller can't they give him a new boat? Whats up with that?
Maybe that is what he preferrs!

I was wondering the same thing. I think he has a different one if I remember right. Maybe hes just saving a little more on gas by pulling the smaller boat all over the place??

I would say he chose to take that one for that body of water, better control than his big wind shield Lund. I saw that and knowing how he fishes he probably felt better using this one. Just my 3 cents worth.
Ron Seelhoff had a 2006 2025 Lund for sale in the classifieds earlier this year.
I'm thinking maybe Lund does sponsor him with a new boat in some capacity. Since his 2 championship wins he has not been in the money a great deal of the time, he may have needed to generate some cash to fish the circuits - but that's just a guess.
He had a 2025 for sale last year too in the classifieds, however he fished out of an 1800 with a 135 Opti.
Ron is rather laid back and knows how to enjoy every day on the water, nice to see him keep it all in perspective.

Rons pretty sharp guy, I've fished with him back in 98 or 99, and with the two bodies of water being clear or electic motor presentations he has a great advantage to saving lots of money and following those sharp contours with a tiller. The amount of gas depends on the size of boat and most are within 10 miles of the launch site, And as for hauling, yes its alot easier on the tranny, and I will say hes got a fleet of boats at home. Its a boat that trolls nice withoutproblems with the wind catching the windshield, and keeping an eye on your electronics the whole time, yes its small but productive for those two bodies they have been on.

His crop dusting company (he is the/one of the pilots) supports him when the income from fishing does not. He is just a down to earth, cowboy from the plains of Colorado who knows how to troll.
He took 6th place at Chamberlain Super Pro and 11th at Winneconne Regional I'd say thats not bad. He has been running that boat all season and I know there is nothing wrong with running a smaller tiller but you would think it would be a 2006 with a 4-stroke motor and not a mid to late 90's model.
He had the tiller on nasty Devils Lake also.
All I was getting at is Mr. Seelhoff is a Super Pro and he is worthy of running a New Lund.

Let that be a lesson to ya then... You don't NEED the "latest, greatest, biggest, bestest" to be a "Great Fisherman"! ;)

p.s. I know bestest is not really a word..but it rhymed. lol

That is a statement without arguement. He's good.

We chit chatted in Chamberlain and he had his/a Lund 2025 for that tourney.

Still goes to show you, you don't need the most expensive boat and motor to compete and be good. He's one awesome angler and hope I draw him someday. Jason

I'd guess Mr.Seelhoff is fishing out of the boat he CHOSE to fish out of for all the right reasons. Only Ron knows why he's in that boat and chances are it isn't by accident...Just my .02..RJ in Montana..

Currently number 7 on weigh in maybe he is making a statement, About what being a super pro is all about,

Ok, it's as simple as boat control. He told me at Devils Lake that it gave him the advantage, because for what he was doing he had more control with the smaller tiller.
Mystery solved.

Yeah he has inspired me to keep and upgrade my 90 1800 ProV, its nearly the same as what Ron is running.

I'm pretty sure he has plenty of boats to choose from. At the PWT Championship last year he was fishing out of an 1800 wheel boat with a 135 opti on it. But that wasn't what struck me. What surprised me was the electronics on the boat. He had an old LMS 350 on the console and a very old Humminbird on the bow. It might be that he just knows what the #### he is doing.

I don't know????? Maybe he is a great guy??????????? I have never met him and really didn't believe in first imressions but a post like this tends to make me want to put all the cards on the table. So her's my 2 cents. my only experience with him were the violations he made prefishing a number of days during the PWT in Winneconne. I wish I knew weather or not he just didn't read the rules book or blatently broke those rules I suppose being allowed to fish tells me it was an oversight but the "unfair advantage" he gained was NOT fair to the rest of the field, maybe prefish rule violations should be handled differently. Kind of put a bad taste in my mouth about it all! Otherwish he has great credability in my book with all his other accomplishments. Should I give him a second look?

I just fished with him Day 1 in Houghton. We had over 16lbs from his little boat. I don't want to spill too much info, but you won't see that boat again on the tour. He's getting a new ride (much larger, 150hp tiller).

Why? Are you thinking about offering him a job? Or taking him out on a date? I guess I am not following the "second look" thing. Did I miss something?

What type of violations? He did he get ticketed or something?
just wondering, as those are deffinate violations, if he got ticketed.

That is his "lucky" boat from 10 years ago, at least.
Pretty sure he has a big Pro-V IFS too, if he didn't sell it already.
That old 1775 tiller is all he needs for the smaller waters involved in Super Pro. he won a ton of money out of that rig back in the past century.
I remember one time Ron won a Champion boat at a PWT tourney. Up on stage he said something to the effect of- "Thanks for the boat. It's real pretty, and I might even sit in it once before I sell it........but I like my LUND boats".
LOL!!!
he said
07-05-2006, 04:09 PM
Ron said exactly that at the championship in madison, It was about the new truck he just won however. Said maybe he would even take it to church once before he sold it. You guys who are so new to this sport that you cannot remember the old days, well, we lived them. It would just crush so many of these new "Up and commers" to be beat by a guy in a small tiller. Heheheeheeh stop and think about it before you laugh.

For the context what violations did Ron do? the only negative comments I have heard is he is a "tail piper" With that being said one still must bring the fish to the scales

Ron's a standup, down to earth guy.He creates "tailpipers", you'll never see him fishin' the pack.He is nobody's posterboy.

If you'll never see him fish the "pack," wait until you see the last two days of the PWT on Devils Lake when it gets to TV. There were plenty of tailpipers and Ron was there also. First day there were only 7 boats in there. The second day there were 15+. 4 of the top 5 after day one were fishing there.

WOW what a honey hole,Day 2 Ron weighed in .08 of a lb more than his day 1 spot.

The winner was fishing there, thats what a honey hole it was. The 19th place finisher stumbled in there on day 2 and look what weight he had. He was only about 10 yards from the winner. Tailpiping is tailpiping whether you catch big fish or not. Especially when you troll only a few feet from ones bobbers.
