I know most if not all Evenrude the pros that bought 06 620 put the 225ho and they are getting close to 60mph. Evenrude is coming out with a 250 HO in 07, something else to ponder.

The company brochure in front of me states that the 250 weighs in at 532#'s and the 225 HO weighs in at 525#'s.

Can't speak to the 250, but I was in a 620 with the 225 and it flat out hauled #### . Top speed in a medium weekend chop on Lake St. Clair with three people, two of us big ones was very high 50's . Was a very impressive combo IMHO .

Patrick,
Go with the 225HO, the lightning gearcase gives the 225HO engine an edge in the overall speed by about 2-3 mph. A 6" manual or hydraulic plate will also be a great addition to handling and performance (rough water, shallow water prop savior)Loaded speeds around the high 50's can be expected. (full windshields take off a couple mph's )
tcfish- Don't know where you got the info on a 250HO but that is not the case for 07'. It will not be in any E-tec model offering in the near future.

I talked directly to an Evinrude employee and they stated that Evinrude IS working on the 250HO. He stated further that there is no commitment to timing of its release since they do not want the issues they had with the original 225HO release. This motor will be a checkmate to Merc's 250XS which is the top dog right now. After the 250HO, Merc's claim to fame can be LOUDEST motor on the market.

The guys getting upper 50's, what props are you running and what is the distance from the centerline of the prop to the underside of your hull? I appreciate the info!

The 250 XS - which will become the 250 Pro XS in October, will be louder, faster and the more fuel efficient, with a better price than E-TEC. In fact, the V6 OptiMaxs have outpaced the E-TECs in fuel efficiency, speed and price for the last 1.5 years. If you'd like we can show the Rude Awakening Brochure again - just to refresh everyone's memories...

The Rude Awakening Brochure was a bunch of factless lies made up by the folks at Mercury to try to hide the truth! There were a lot of typos in that rag. LOL

Here's the link - you can go from page to page on the left side of the screen --

By the way Mr Bogus --- The Rude Awakening Brochure was printed using excerpts from Bass and Walleye Boats Magazine - the data was gathered at shootouts over the past year or so -- all attended and witnessed by Mercury, Yamaha and Evinrude employees (and you should know, that each person/company is given the chance to drive the rigs which feature their engines - in case they think that someone is sandbagging). Nothing in the brochure was "made up" - there is no need to make anything up - the data shows the truth. The facts remain - the only category that the E-TEC beats the OptiMax in is sound.
As consumers, I would be more curious about something else. Where was the E-TEC during the latest Bass and Walleye Boat 250 Shootout on Ranger 620s? They chose not to participate - I wonder why? The 250 XS OptiMax won overall - but,the VERADO also had a very strong showing - hmmm. I would have thought with all those 4-strokes to pick on the E-TEC folks would have jumped all over it. Next time you see one of them at a Boat Show maybe you should ask them why??? I can't imagine a more "fair" and appropriate venue for them to prove everything they have been saying in the infomercials.

Sounds like my next motor should be Opti? Where can I find the warranty comp... and the #'s of claims? How about that pricing, where do I find all that?

Your authorized Mercury dealer can give the pricing info you need.
You should also know that the OptiMax won this year's JD Power Award for Highest Customer satisfaction in 2-strokes (DI)- that should help you understand the reliability comparisons between Evinrude, Yamaha and Mercury's DI systems.
Right now the OptiMax comes with a 3-year, non-declining, factory-backed, fully transferable warranty - its a solid as they come!

JD Power tells me nothing I would like to know. I want to find cold hard facts on warrany claims and issues. JD Power tells me people are brand loyal. I would much rather see claims issues, #'s and %'s of claims. This will tell me my hard earned money is going to the right motor. Is there a place I can veiw these things? I don't want to read "on a scale of 1-10 how do you like this or that"
Do you have a list of #'s of motors sold in say the 225 H.P class and the Number of warranty claims for each maker?
Mark Klossner

No - nothing that specific on the number of warranty claims by mfg. Actually JD Power is a measure of engine problems and more importantly, the engine owner's satisfaction with the way the company supports any engine problems he or she may have had.

JD powers award is a award that can be bought. You have to have a good product but then you bid for the award. JD tells you nothing. Look at some of the boats that have won the award in the past(Pontoons) and you can tell its garbage.

So you are telling me "we" the buyers are on our own? No one out there is looking out for us. JD Power is the worst measure of everything they touch. I don't care if Billy Joebob is happy with his "new" motor that has 25 hrs. on it, I want to know how Billy Joebobs motor is working after 250-500 Hrs. Company support means little to the guy who has a motor that won't run and it takes up half of his summer to get it fixed. 3 Years in the upper Midwest for a warranty is a JOKE, the avg owner puts on less than 50 hrs. a year. So at the end of 3 years MOST owners have between 100-150 hrs. and the motor is out of warranty. How can we buyers take a Companies word on buying products? All the compaines are telling us how great they are, but have nothing to back it up with. Except JD Power?
I for one don't care who is faster, uses .002 gals. of fuel less, I care about how long it will last and how much time I may be out if it's broken down. I care about what it takes to maintain it, i.e oil consumption, how ofen I have to buy new parts. Is the oil pump going to fail, is the alt. belt proon to breakage, do I have to worry about plugs fouling. These are the things buyers NEED to know to make the sound buying choices you want. I'm sure everyone of these compaines monitors it's claims--- POST them for the world to see! Why do they hide everything from us, then ship out products they know are proon to fail? If you want 17.500. for a 225 HP you better have facts on what I'm buying! Remember the Yugo, it was cheap and used little gas--how long did it last though?

>kloss - the problem with arguing with (unlogged) pigs, in the
>mud, is the pig enjoys it.
So Burr "we" buyers should not have access to these facts? We should take Kloss's and your word for things because you are a reg, poster here? This is what is wrong with the world, nobody will stand up and give you facts BUT they will give you thier opinion on everything!
