7-Eleven drops Citgo 9/27/2006
Numerous news outlets, including the Associated Press and Forbes, announced within the last hour that 7-Eleven stores have dropped Citgo as a gasoline supplier. The action came in the wake of Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez' recent conduct at the UN General Assembly. Chavez, who controls Citgo, referred to president Bush as "the Devil."
Citgo is currently the title sponsor of BASS, but that relationship is expected to end with the conclusion of this season. Sources close to BASS say the search for a new title sponsor has been underway since earlier this year, and leading candidates include current sponsor Toyota, and Goodyear – which sponsored last month's Bassmaster Legends Major.

Did anyone see the chavez reports. I for 1, will not ever spend another penny at citgo. I would go out of my way to fill the boat and truck because you support those who support you. Not anymore. I would encourage others to do the same. Show the unity of america.

7-11 announced this back in July. They did not do it because of Chavez' comments recently. Granted, he's still a fruitcake and I won't buy by gas there anymore either, but don't think that 7-11 did some great patriotic thing here. The contract with Citgo was set to expire at the end of september anyway.

Allis good unless you picked up a Citgo franchise and sold gas in addition to bait and tackle. I agree the guy is an idiot, but on the same token how many chap 11 are going to take place on acount of this kooks antics? More or less who is next to speak their mind and take down the small US business-man in the "global" economy?

So, what are you suggesting? Do nothing? People have an opportunity to speak with their pocket books. Why not take advantage of the power of the consumer's wallet? Are you suggesting that everyone should turn their head to the situation because the small business man you speak of made a BAD decision?

If I owned a Citgo, it would be a BP as soon as possible.

I would switch to another oil company also if I was Citgo station. The problem is that stations have long term contracts with Citgo and the other oil companies so it may be 5 to 10 years before they can change providers.
Even if you don't buy from a Citgo station you are still putting oil from Citgo in your car. All the oil is combined in the refinery before it is refined. Even if Citgo sales go down at retail the oil will just go to a different profider and the money will go to Citgo. So by not buying from a Citgo station all you are doing is hurting the American store owner, you are not hurting Hugo one bit!

Not American?.....What TRIBE are you from....Cherokee, Iroquois, Crow, Sioux??? or the ever present tribe of the invading white man....and in some cases also known as biggots. Get over it, these immigrants or others who come here are trying to make a better life. Same as my grandad and probably yours. They are American....just like you and I.

Hugo's a jerk,
Can you give me a link to some reading material that backs up your statements? I am not doubting you, just would like to bring myself up to speed on how the oil really works. I am thinking I was wrong all these years.
Thanks
