I was wondering if you could provide us with a page where we could discuss "Off Topic" issues, you know like politics, world news, current events, ect.??

Thanks.

I'd say pull "off topics" IP address, and match it to the registered users list, and you'll probably know who one of our biggest flamers is.

I'm beginning to worry about myself because the threads I follow the most seem to be the ones that get dusted.

Would that be synonomous with General Discussion?

There is a mighty big difference between what could fit under General Discussion... and the rest of the topis...

If you don't like a subject that is not a personal attack and is kept business like... don't read it... avoid the topic...

I will continue to support the elimination of insulting and personal attacks... and disagree with the concept that we need to limit discussions... But, that is the discretionary power of the owners... And, while I may disagree I cannot argue that it is their right to do so...

Well, I've tried that in the past and it just doesn't work.
Politics that is.

People just cannot discuss politics without it turning ugly....and it's been proven time and time again.

It turns into more trouble for the moderators and myself than it is worth.

As for world events and "off topic" discussions, those are more than welcome on the "General Discussion" forum.

As long as it doesn't get political.

I think we have a well rounded forum without spreading it too thin.

Personally I don't like a message board with 20 different forums or one for each lake....takes too long to find what I'm looking for.

I prefer keeping things easier to find with less menu items.

And, as far as I know, it's working fine.

As far as I know ;-)

Politics on WC. NO !! I can't be trusted! :boozer: It is hard enough having a Apple/Mac centric opinion!! :rotfl:

Politics, when it was allowed did get way out of control. While liking to add some comments, I too feel that it was a disservice to the quality of this great site.

Even though, there is the saying " Don't open and look into a thread and scream and yell that you hate what is being said, just plain ignore the thread and stop whining!

What a shame to think that we all become savage's when politics are on the board. I thought we were all a bunch of jolly good ol' American fishermen?

You have a great site here Scott. As I have stated many times, I like to discuss politics as well as anyone but it gets out of hand each and every time these subjects are brought up. As much as I would like to ignore them, the temptation to respond gets the best of me and I sometimes dive in. I am always sorry that I did. My wife is an elected official and some of the BS gets under my skin. Please keep the site free from this stuff. Most of the other sites that I visit would not tolerate 80% of the General Discussion. Instead of wanting more BS people should be happy that they get away with what they do. Just my opinion, I could be wrong..........nah!

does anyone here go to any specific political sites for just this sort of thing?

There are several, but it depends on your style which you would like. Some are very heavily formatted and you have to follow specific criteria and format your answers/rebuttals in true debate format with references etc. ( A little tiresome).
Google 'Debate forums' or 'Political Debate Forums' and you'll get what you want.

West vs. east, north vs. south, glass, vs. aluminum, welded vs. riveted, Mercury vs. every other manufacturer, we have enough things to argue over now...... my vote is to keep it the way it is.

Some days it seems to me like we need a counseling message board.

Every off-topic forum I've seen allowing political discussions was merely a breeding ground for tose who exhibit discontent, and poor behavior. Personal attacks become commonplace, and no real purpose is served. I think politics in general has become a series of innuendos and snipe attacks in this country and I hear enough of that nonsense in regular ordinary life.
If Walleye Central were to have such an off-topic forum, I certainly would stop coming to the entire site.

If you want to see a fishing site that has an off topic board, just click on this link.

http://www.wmi.org/multi_boards/politics/

IHMO WC is better off without such a board.

I agree with everything said as quoted above.

People who want to argue politics can go to other boards. It gets out of hand and gets ugly even on sites that require registration. We don't need it here.

I left out the portion of the original quote stating the author would no longer come to WC if such a topic area was created. Its existence would not stop me from coming to the site. I for one just wouldn't look at that area.

I guess you're entitled to your opinion of Juls but I don't think too many agree with you. If you thought you could do better on the Tour you'd be out there busting your butt to beat the best anglers in our sport. It must be pretty tough because there seems to be some people finishing behind her in those tournaments too. Being the 89th best Walleye Angler in the World doesn't seem all that bad to me. She hasn't been at it as long as many others and deserves to be given her shot to prove whether she really belongs or not. I wish everyone could get their "Shot" at the big time but that's not the way things work. Apparently she is also very adept at doing the right things to keep her sponsors happy with the exposure she brings. The finishes in the tournaments aren't what defines you as being a Professional fisherman. Can you deliver for your sponsors what they expect you too deliver? PROFESSIONALISM, which you have shown us that you are lacking and she has tons of.

As far as dusting posts, follow the rules and your words of wisdom will be seen by many for years to come.
