Does anyone have any info regarding ice fishing Lac Suel near Drydan or Siox Lookout. Trying to plan a trip and would like some input from others who have fished it.

I'm with ya on this one. I would also like to go try some winter walleye fishing up there, but info. seems to be sparse. In my conversations with Ken Robbins, the owner of Ojibway Outfitters, he expressed that navigating Lac Seul in the winter is challenging due to the many areas that can have current flow in the southern regions of the lake. Makes it tough to get out to the main lake area to fish. I know that he goes around the lake across a lot of land areas to access his camp in winter. I hope someone responds to this post.....

I lived in Sioux Lookout and Hudson years ago and Ken Robbins is right about Lac Seul in the winter. The same goes for Pelican Lake, which Sioux Lookout is on. There is significant current through that system and you can go from three feet of ice to an inch in very short order. It's best to go with, or at the very least to get specific information from, a local who knows the current system. Hiring a guide and using snowmobiles would be your best bet.

I've ice fished the Lost Lake and Webster Bay areas near Hudson a few times and have had some great success off shallow humps, as the 'Eyes come in to feed in the evenings. I've always found March and early April just prior to breakup, to be a great time for Walleyes through the ice.

Hey TeeDub, anyone you know in the Souix lookout/Hudson area that would be of that capacity or maybe know someone of that capacity?

You could try sending an e-mail to Rick Tinney (rtinney@sioux-online.com) He owns Deerpath Lodge on Big Vermillion. I don't know if he keeps any of his cabins open over the winter, but he'd probably be able to put you onto one of his summer guides who all know that area of Lac Seul. There's a couple of pretty decent Motels in Sioux Lookout for accommodation. Incidentally, the Lake Trout ice fishing on Big Vermillion is real good as well. If I was going, I'd spend the days on Vermillion for trout and the evenings on Lac Seul, or one of the smaller lakes in the area for Walleyes.

Winoga Lodge keeps his cabins open during the winter. They are on Abrams Lake. I know they have a web site.

If you are looking for a place to saty and fish that area, Winoga lodge is the place to be, they have a really nice place that is winterized and all the necessities of home, Dick Mansfield who is the owner and operator of this establishment is renowned for his knowledge of the area, I have fished this area all my life and no one knows it like Mr. Mansfield, he starts his winter there the day after christmas and doesn't stop ice fishing untill the 15 of april, he has a very good success catching walleyes, whitefish and lake trout, He has taken my friends and I fishing on lac seul, Minnitaki, Sandy Beach, Big Vermillion and several outpost lakes and we have always had phenominal success. I have to alot of diferent camps in that are and I would say Winoga is the best place with the best people. If you have anymore questions just let me know. And the web site is winoga.com

Did you say Red Lake,
The untouched wilderness.... If your looking for ice fishing and you have your own snowmachine... you'll want to head up this way... Nice trails and the walleyes stack up in certain areas during the winter months which makes it like fishing in a fish bowl... Need a cabin, place to stay..
mistawalleye@hotmail.com I'll put you on fish...

Well, by now I am sure that everyone has noticed this Jeannine Mansfield-Master Angler pattern. Business must be slow.

I fish in Red Lake and all the many lakes around there. We fish lake trout, big northern and walleyes when were there. The camp owner we stay in the summer has 2 lakefront suite we stay in, it beats staying at a hotel and we can trust the guy to tell us if it's worth coming up to fish. you can't go wrong in the Red Lake area.

I would hope so, since he is obviously your husband or Father.
Don't play that game. It's not cool to try and deceive people. Honesty is your best policy, especially if you're in the people pleasing business.

I'm sure you have a wonderful place up there, which means you will have plenty of happy customers willing to recommend your place to others, like Dave did above.
